Position Overview

As a Safety and Health Consultant in the IOSHA Division, you will work under the supervision of the Safety Enforcement Bureau Chief at our central office near Valley Junction in Des Moines, Iowa. You will work together with program managers and other enforcement inspectors to eliminate workplace hazards in facilities across the state.

Responsibilities

You will be an integral member of our team, providing leadership and guidance to the department in support of the agency’s operations by:

  • Conducts regulatory inspections at various work sites across the state to ensure compliance with state and federal safety and health codes.
  • Interviews affected staff to determine workplace exposure and level of training.
  • Collects all relevant data for entry into the OSHA Information System utilized for casefile formation and management.
  • Proposes citations and penalties to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Evaluates and approves the abatement efforts submitted by employers.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil, mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering, or industrial safety education;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting experience equal to one year of full time work for a public or private organization where the preponderance of duties were directly related to safety enforcement for each year of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years.
