We are currently seeking a Situation Awareness Manager. This is a work from home position. This position is open to qualified candidates located within the United States.

What You Need To Know

Provide management and oversight of the situation awareness and disaster assessment programs ensuring that implementation and activities are carried out in accordance with program objectives. Provide planning, design and implementation support to the situation awareness and disaster assessment program areas. Analyze program activity and identify areas for improvement. May work with internal and external contacts to develop program strategies and proposal initiatives. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers. This person will work within a disaster response environment and therefore must thrive in the face of ambiguity and rapidly changing priorities.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.

  • Direct and coordinate activities concerned with implementation and carrying out objectives of the situation awareness and disaster assessment programs.
  • Will participate in the planning, execution and evaluation of the situation awareness and disaster assessment programs and related projects.
  • Ensure integration of assigned projects and functions with the overall Situation Awareness and Decision Support (SADS) program initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze data, identify areas of need and/or improvement, and develop recommendations for program improvement.
  • Develop reports on project status and issues for review by Situation Awareness and Decision Support (SADS) and Operations and Logistics Leadership.
  • Administer processes within situation awareness and disaster assessment.
  • Analyze operating practices and recommend revisions to improve established procedures.
  • May work in conjunction with internal departments and external government and/or non-government agencies in the development of program strategies and proposal initiatives as required.
  • Develop and support volunteers who are the primary workforce. Engage volunteers as equal team members with specific responsibilities as part of their work.

Scope: Individual contributor with comprehensive knowledge in situation awareness activities. Ability to execute complex or specialized projects; adapt precedent and may make significant departures from traditional approaches to develop solutions.

The salary range for this position is $74,528. -$105,984. Note that the American Red Cross sets salary ranges aligned to a specific geographic location in which the work is performed. The stated salary range in this posting is an average. The specific salary information will be shared at the time of phone screening based upon your location and qualifications.

This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.

What You Need To Succeed

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in situation awareness is preferred.
  • Experienced in the identification, development, collection, and communication of essential elements of information is preferred.
  • Experience using data visualization tools to deliver situation awareness information is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of geospatial tools and systems (i.e., ArcGIS, Survey123) and their application to situation awareness and disaster assessment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of data structure applies to data collection and visualization is preferred.
  • Experience developing common operating pictures through data visualizations is preferred.
  • Experience validating and compiling situation information into reporting products is preferred.
  • Experience in data collection methodologies and survey design is preferred.
  • Experience with project management is preferred
  • All members of this team are responsible for supporting disaster operations, which requires working non-standard hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • This position requires ability for problem solving, data analysis, technical writing, project management, strategic thinking, and process improvement.
  • Individual must be analytical, customer oriented, organized, and able to operate with an external and strategic focus.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to distill critical situation awareness information into easily consumable information products.
  • Ability to inform data collection processes and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating presentations and developing training modules.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills, including training and presentations.
  • Develop project plans, budgets, and strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate analytical and decision-making skills to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, PowerBI and other Power platform tools.
  • Ability to work on a team and in a matrixed environment.

Travel: Travel may be required. *

Combination of candidate’s education and overall experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and overall experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
