Job Description: Senior Health Physicist (California) Location: Berkley, CA
The Senior Health Physicist is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of radiation practices within a variety of settings, including research, medical, or industrial environments. The role involves monitoring, evaluating, and managing radiation protection programs, conducting assessments, and providing guidance on radiation safety procedures to meet state and federal regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee radiation safety programs, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards (state, federal, and local).
  • Perform radiation surveys, inspections, and audits to evaluate potential hazards and ensure safe radiation practices.
  • Develop and implement radiation protection procedures, safety protocols, and emergency response plans.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on radiation safety procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and radiation detection equipment.
  • Review and approve radiological work plans, ensuring that all work is performed within safety guidelines.
  • Analyze and evaluate radiation exposure data, preparing detailed reports and recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and respond to inquiries, audits, and inspections.
  • Manage and maintain radiation detection and monitoring equipment.
  • Stay updated on the latest regulations, technologies, and best practices related to radiation safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Health Physics, Radiation Protection, or a related field.
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health physics or radiation protection.
  • Extensive knowledge of radiation detection instruments and radiation protection standards (NRC, OSHA, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage and train staff.
