The newly formed Cell Therapy Research department in gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development) is looking for a motivated and inquisitive Scientist to help develop novel therapies to combat intractable diseases. We are looking for a candidate with a scientific background in stem cell biology and cell therapy, coupled with a resourceful aptitude for problem-solving. The successful applicant will display a proactive and collaborative work ethic, proficiently engaging and communicating across diverse teams with the shared goal of contributing to the Genentech cell therapy pipeline. This position will report to a Principal Scientist and play a pivotal role in shaping the growth, culture and future of the Cell Therapy Research department.

The Opportunity:

In this role you will have the opportunity to:
  • Plan, conduct, and analyze experiments leveraging a diversity of cell types to support existing cell therapy efforts at Genentech, as well as help develop new ones.
  • Learn and develop new methods to efficiently produce engineered cell therapies with controlled cellular composition.
  • Actively collaborate with groups both within and outside gRED, encompassing the cycle of development of successful cell therapies.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate experimental records utilizing electronic tools.
  • Participate and contribute to strategic planning enabling the contribution of the Cell Therapy department to Genentech's pipeline.


Who you are:
  • A PhD, MD, DVM or equivalent with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's or equivalent with 8+ years of experience, or a Master's or equivalent with 6 years of experience.
  • Record of scientific, technical or process improvement contributions evidenced by co-authorship of papers, patents or IND reports, and/or significant contribution to a cell therapy pipeline development.
  • A robust background in stem cell biology and iPSC reprogramming.
  • Proficient in human pluripotent stem cell culture and working with primary immune cells.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following: NGS genome and epigenome workflows, cell differentiation, high-throughput cell-based screening.
  • An inherent team player, able to prioritize team's objectives and collaborate effectively within teams. Possesses strong communication skills within and beyond the team, along with a strong work ethics underlined by scientific curiosity and rigor - an eye for detail and a drive for excellence will be vital attributes.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the development of cell therapy products (e.g. pipeline progression, process development, good manufacturing practices) is a big plus.
  • Additional skillset of interest could include: cell engineering, DOE approaches, computational data analysis and/or programming.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $100,200 and $186,000 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
