Duties/Responsibilities: Job duties include updating and maintaining the Tidelands GIS Data Layer that can be viewed by the public as well as internal staff. The information for these layers will be from both spatial and non-spatial digital data, hard-copy historic maps, and aerial photography in support of the Bureau of Tidelands mission to manage lands currently or formerly flowed by water owned by the State. This work can include georeferencing scanned maps and aerial photography; feature identification, classification, and enhancement; area calculations; and spatial analysis on both raster and vector data. Additional job duties include using GIS research to assist Bureau staff in establishing Tidelands policies; preparing reports outlining recommendations to the Tidelands Resource Council for deliberations concerning the disposition of State-owned lands; and processing Tidelands Grants and Licenses as well as providing hardware and software support as needed, including GIS Training and user assistance. Further duties involve participation in enhancement/development of GIS technology to support online Tidelands applications currently used by the Department; assisting in the development/use of data collected in the field using portable devices such as tablets, smartphones, and GPS units. Assist Bureau staff with the preparation of technical reports and communicate with applicants; assisting with and maintaining the Watershed and Land Management and Tidelands website in conjunction with the IT Group.
