Summary:

The Test Engineer (Analyst) is accountable to the Engineering Manager for planning, designing and developing test projects for computer-based systems. This position receives technical guidance from the Engineering Manager. Work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Plans, designs, and develops test projects for computer-based systems. Participates in the test development of new software programs or the modification of existing software programs to respond to customer needs, reduce operating time, and/or improve real-time processing techniques.
  • Tests software programs to ensure their successful integration into larger systems.
  • Communicates the findings of the test results to the development team, customer representatives and engineering management.
  • Assists in formulating software engineering project requirements to meet customer needs.
  • Integrates software into or with hardware systems. Assists hardware and systems engineers and technicians in troubleshooting anomalies associated with the integration effort.
  • Troubleshoots and assists software/hardware/operations teams with resolving discrepancies or anomaly reports; This may entail creating custom test tools and formulating innovative solutions to expedite a satisfactory resolution.
  • Writes documentation in support of test development including but not limited to: test plans, descriptions and results.
  • Writes or revises user documentation.
  • Document in Azure DevOps the results of testing, logging of all defects identified.
  • Provides technical guidance to users.
  • Attends meetings as required (e.g., DATR CCB, WINGS status, requirements review

Other Related Duties:
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining ISO-compliant engineering processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for WINGS Software Library maintenance and System Version Document.
  • Maintain system administrator duties as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education: Associates degree in a technology related field with 2 years related work experience; in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years of total work experience may be substituted for the former requirement.

Experience: A minimum of two years of software test development experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Working knowledge of software development processes and systems integration.
  • Familiarity with NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) missions.
  • Technical familiarity with the WINGS equipment maintained at the DATR.
  • Windows operating system administration.

Core Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of: Test development, Azure DevOps Test Plans/Suite

General knowledge of: Windows NT, General Dynamics Omega telemetry acquisition system and telemetry processing; DATR CCB and Software Development Processes

Ability to: Apply the principles and techniques of software and system test development to specific projects; Write and prepare a variety of technical and user-oriented reports, manuals, and other types of written communications. Effectively interact with system users and development team; Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; Establish and maintain successful work relationships with those contacted in the performance of this position; Work in a team environment; Work under deadlines; Effectively use project planning, writing and spreadsheet software programs such as Microsoft Project, WORD and Excel; Perform work in an ISO compliant/certified environment; Obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, prolonged sitting while using the computer and the telephone and attending meetings, constant use of sight abilities while programming and reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information and data. Ability to travel as required by the Company.
