Schneider Electric has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated individual to assume the role of Materials Engineering Intern in our Cedar Rapids, IA location. This role supports a Powder Metallurgy process for components within power distribution equipment.This will be a part-time internship with the possibility to extend through Summer as full-time. No visa sponsorship or relocation will be provided for this role.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of a powder metallurgy process used to manufacture critical components in power distribution equipment.
  • Undertake metallurgical sample preparation and characterization, microscope analysis, process improvement, Design of Experiments (DOE), sample prototyping, capability analysis, general documentation, and other related general laboratory activities
  • Role provides a unique opportunity to witness state-of-the-art manufacturing process and equipment and be exposed to a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Role will be a mix of hands-on sample creation, preparation, and characterization with some computer work and report creation.
  • Participate in hands-on laboratory work including metallurgical sample preparation and characterization, microscope analysis, and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and documentation related to materials engineering activities.

This job might be for you if:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Have a strong command of material structure-properties relationships from coursework or other experience.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with equipment such as microscopes, hardness testers, analytical balances, and elemental analysis tools.
  • Strong command of material structure-properties relationships from coursework or other experience.
  • Strong computer skills and technical writing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate ideas clearly.
