This is a hybrid role where you are required to be in the office 2 days per week. This role requires you to be able to work Arizona Time Zone hours. Candidates must reside near one of our offices in Scottsdale, AZ (preferred), Columbus, OH, or Des Moines, IA.

This role is within Excess and Surplus Specialty (E&SS).

The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Minimum of 4-5 years' experience with Guidewire Claim Center 10.2.x (configuration and integration).
  • Mastery of Java and microservices using Springboot.
  • Proficiency in version control (Git).
  • A solid understanding of web-based security (secure coding practices and coding standards).
  • DevOps experience and DevOps tool is a plus (Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher, Concourse, Docker registry/Harbor, Harness, Splunk or similar tools.
  • Exceptional skills in log analysis and troubleshooting
  • Experience in monitoring and observability tools such as New Relic, BigPanda.
  • Familiarity with testing/GUnit/JUnit frameworks.
  • Knowledge in API integrations using REST/SOAP, Apigee and event streaming using Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS and cloud-native platform with Kubernetes.
  • An eager desire to learn and master new technologies and languages.
  • A strong grasp of Agile methodologies.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you'll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.
  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.


May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
