We re looking for a Co-op in Applied Chemistry Research!

About the Position:

This is a six month co-op in the Research and Advanced Development group. The Co-op will work directly with our scientists and will have the opportunity to get substantial research experience and to work independently on projects.

This assignment will focus on the ink formulation, characterization and encapsulation which are used in the next generation of electronic paper display platforms.

Tasks will be varied and include opportunities to learn about encapsulation technologies, make/modify pigments and test some of the display components as well as work with the final devices using the latest E Ink technology.

The co-op must exhibit safe lab practices at all times and be capable of continuously learning new equipment and laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform wet chemistry in a chemical benchtop lab to formulate and encapsulate ink formulations. This includes pigment modification, working with UV-curable polymers and use of encapsulation techniques.
  • Test electrical and electro-optical performance of polymers
  • Organize chemical property data of materials and work with scientists to design and carry out experiments
  • Clearly communicate and document the results of project landmarks and deliver project presentations to a technical audience

Qualifications:

  • Student pursuing a Master s or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science
  • Strong materials characterization and data analysis skills
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Good technical writing and oral communication skills
  • Good organization skills and the capacity to manage own schedule
  • Local address

Preferences:

  • Experience with chemistry or polymer science
  • Understanding of simple polymers, colloids, and interface concepts
