Summary:
Supervision responsible for all components of Trauma Registry operations including data collection, data entry and retrieval, data quality and integrity, data analysis, display, and statistical conversion. Interact with state and regional regulatory agencies providing required data to ensure the accreditation of the hospital s designation as a Verified Trauma Center. This role will reflect the most recent criteria outlined in the current American College of Surgeons (ACS) document Resource for the Optimal Care of the Injured Patient with respect to registrar activities.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and review all potential trauma cases for the purpose of inclusion into the registry utilizing various electronic systems.
- Responsible for the abstraction, coding and application of all trauma data elements in the registry taken primarily from inpatient trauma cases including all phases of trauma care, i.e., pre-hospital, emergency room and inpatient episodes, autopsy reports.
- Review trauma admission records for data collection and abstraction.
- Analyzes all records for quality assurance trauma standards recommended by the Trauma Committee and as stipulated by the American College of Surgeons and the hospital accrediting body (JCAHO, DNV, etc).
- Compiles all trauma registry data as required by ACS and requested by the Trauma Medical Director and/or Trauma Program Manager with all relevant trauma audit filter inconsistencies in monthly reports.
- Produce various other QI reports as requested by the Trauma Committee and present information at quarterly Institutional meetings.
- Conducts validity checks per guidelines to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the date.
- Expands the database and program as necessary to meet the needs of the Trauma Program and Health System as dictated by the needs at the regional and state level.
- Ensures data required by the state is abstracted and sent on a timely basis.
- Interacts with the state Trauma Registry and assists in the development of future data collection items and software.
- Represents the hospital at the regional and state level and participates in the continued development of the statewide trauma network.
- Maintains open communication through involvement with work groups and provides in-services as indicated.
- Interacts with software support staff of hospital-specific trauma registry vendors.
- Prepares quarterly and annual reports which are distributed internally through the Institutional Trauma Committee and others.
- Complete research requests approved by Trauma Director or Trauma Program Manager.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Education:
Associate Degree in Health Information Technology/Management or completion of a correspondence course sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association as required.
OR
Commensurate Trauma Registry experience (i.e., American Trauma Society (ATS) Registry Course and/or Abbreviated Injury Severity (AIS) Scoring Course.
Certifications:
Verification of completion of the American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registrar. Or Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required. Or Verification of completion of the American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registrar.
