The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

Who we are:

The Department of Translational Medicine leads biomarker discovery and development efforts for programs in Early Stage Research through Phase III clinical trials for the disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (TM-OMNI). Biomarker scientists within our department are responsible for conducting translational research to study the molecular and cellular pathways driving disease to generate novel target and biomarker approaches. We develop biomarker strategies, design and implement biomarker assays, and interpret biomarker results. We use relevant pharmacodynamic biomarkers to evaluate target-engagement and mechanism of action of candidate therapies, as well as prognostic and predictive biomarkers to guide patient selection and personalized healthcare strategies.

The Opportunity:

As a valuable member of on the Translational Medicine Respiratory team you will be:
  • Partnering closely with Research Immunology to lead preclinical biomarker discovery & development efforts to support research programs using cutting edge techniques.
  • Leading efforts to support clinical trials, lead data generation and analyses within internal studies, and/or lead external academic collaborations relating to understanding respiratory disease pathogenesis. Success in these responsibilities requires a thorough understanding of disease and drug target biology, creativity and attention to detail, and experience in integrating biomarkers into clinical trials and/or with target identification or validation.
  • Leading early and late stage clinical development decision-enabling biomarker strategies, integrate biomarker activities in clinical trials, generate biomarker data, and lead the analysis, interpretation and presentation of results.
  • Participating in or initiating external collaborations related to understanding disease pathogenesis and patient heterogeneity.
  • Serving as the biomarker lead on cross-functional project teams and internal review committees.
  • Collaborating closely with internal partners, including Research, Bioanalytical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology, Biostatistics, Regulatory, and Bioinformatics, as well as with external partners.
  • Writing biomarker sections of clinical and non-clinical protocols, reports, and regulatory filings, publishing results in high quality journals, and presenting at external conferences.

Who you are:

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist to drive our biomarker discovery and drug development efforts in immunology and respiratory diseases. Success in these responsibilities will require:
  • PhD, MD, or MD/PD with 3+ years postdoctoral or industry experience and prior experience with translational research in Immunology, Cell Biology, Respiratory or other related fields.
  • A deep technical understanding of preclinical and clinical sample collection/ processing and molecular/immunological techniques/methods including cell culture, primary cell isolation from tissues, immunostaining, immunoassays, cytometry, molecular biology, transcriptomics, genomic sequencing, cellular immunology.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of independence with ability to develop hypotheses, computational strategies and analysis plans, to interpret and present results and direct lab scientists.
  • A record of high-quality research as demonstrated by publications in top-tier journals and external presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated success working on cross-functional research or clinical project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
