The Flow Cytometry Research Associate provides Research & Development project management, reagent quality management/assurance, and wet lab support to the Flow Cytometry section. Specific focus would be on research projects (both internal use and for publication); assay research, development, and validation; and clinical trial support. Organized, innovative, and solution-oriented work is essential for completing this role, along with time management and ability to maintain focus while handling multiple projects. Effectively collaborating with directors, supervisors, scientists, and technicians/technologists is vital for this role.

Clinical responsibilities will be limited in this role, instead work will focus on projects to update/improve current protocols and procedures as well as develop new protocols to be implemented in the laboratory. These include, but are not limited to clinical panel validation, specimen processing improvements, QM/QC procedures and development, and instrumentation and reagent verification/validation. Additionally, in this role you will work closely with research interns, Flow Cytometry scientists, and other staff on ongoing/new research projects. The degree of clinical responsibilities, as well as distribution of other tasks, is determined by the Director. General hours are 9 AM-5 PM but are flexible. At times hours may be dictated/altered due to job responsibilities, including non-business hours/weekends.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Patient case work (technical)
    • Assist in wet lab if required.
  • Quality Management (technical)
    • Assist in daily quality control when necessary.
    • Develop/update QM protocols with section Director/Supervisor.
    • Validate and help maintain inventory of clinical and research Antibodies/Panels.
    • Maintain competency on all Flow Cytometry wet lab benches.
  • Project Management (technical/analytical/administrative)
    • Develop new and current procedures in conjunction with Supervisor and Director.
    • Validate new instrumentation, reagents, and processes in conjunction with Supervisor and Director.
    • Coordinate with Flow Cytometry scientists on the wet lab portions of research projects.
    • Support/perform data analysis under direction of Flow Cytometry scientists.
  • Meetings (administrative)
    • Participation in all Flow section meetings such as weekly team meetings.
    • Present research/validation findings in section and company-wide meetings.

Qualifications:

  • M.S. and/or Specialist in Cytometry (SCYM) ACSP certification is preferred, MT/MLS ASCP certification welcome.
  • 2+ years of Flow Cytometry specific laboratory experience preferred.
  • Hematology and/or Immunology (or related) research experience preferred.
  • Understands Flow Cytometry instrumentation and analysis software.
  • Demonstrates a strong grasp of Flow Cytometry and fluorochrome expression.
  • Consistently exemplifies the highest attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of hematological malignancies.
  • Possesses a mastery of Excel and other MS programing.
  • Leadership experience and strong communication skills with all team members, including wet lab and analytical staff including the section Supervisor/Director.
