Candidates MUST be WI residents or willing to relocate to WI at their own expense prior to starting. This position can work 100% remotely (within the state of WI).

Job description:

This position is responsible for providing technical expertise and services regarding Power BI report maintenance, creation, and SQL query development for the Department, including providing detailed testing for work of others on the team. Reports would include but not be limited to data collected through enterprise applications such as the WISEid, WISEdata, the Wisconsin State Assessment System, and data reported in WISEdash. The position may also be responsible for fulfilling other state and federal data reporting requirements.

  • The person in this position is responsible for peer testing of the work of their teammates including other ETL developers and dashboard developers.
  • Objectives, priorities, and deadlines are established in consultation with the user, director and division leadership and discussed biweekly during Agile/Scrum sprint retrospective and planning sessions.

Example tasks:

  • Create new Power BI reports for internal or external use.
  • Amend existing Power BI reports, including SQL queries, visuals or DAX.
  • Fulfill adhoc data requests from external or internal requesters.
  • Peer testing of ETL tables, data views, Power BI reports, SQL queries, test scripts, etc
  • Gather and analyze end user requirements for new or existing reports.
  • Complete functional & technical specifications to load data from disparate source systems into Power BI in instances where the data does not belong in the data warehouse.
  • Knowledge about the scrum methodologies and agile practices
  • Work with MS SQL Server 2019+ and Oracle databases
  • Create operational processes including test cases & user documentation
  • Using TFS (Visual Studio/Azure Dev Ops) and Sharepoint for source code control, project related document sharing and team collaboration.
  • Create Change Management tickets as required.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies that will assist the team.
  • Other duties as assigned relating to the data warehouse project.
  • Knowledge and use of SQL
  • Knowledge and experience creating Power BI reports (data modelling, data visualization, DAX)
  • Some experience in data preparation and/or data warehousing projects

  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills and has the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with K-12 education data sector
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft SSIS or similar Microsoft BI stack tools (SSRS, SSAS)
  • Familiarity with scripting and programming
  • Experience or knowledge of working on an Agile/Scrum team (able to work well in a team, but also highly self-motivated and solid communication skills)
