The Wealth Management Metrics and Reporting Department is part of the Wealth Management Business Unit Control Function and is responsible for the development, collection and reporting of risk management and metrics and controls for the Wealth Management Division.

The Metrics and Reporting Control Associate Specialist role is responsible for day-to-day enablement of business unit level risk reporting consistent with the requirements of the Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM") Program at Northern Trust. The person in this role will provide in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in developing, maintaining, and enhancing required management reporting and visualization, and analysis that will be used in strategic decision making. The ideal candidate will have a track record of supporting business intelligence of risk management programs under minimal guidance, working with diverse, cross-functional teams and gathering reporting needs from stakeholders across the division. The Associate Specialist consistently displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, collaborating with the Business, Control, and relevant Northern Trust counterparts (e.g., Risk, Legal, Compliance, Audit, etc.) to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.

The key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Advise and assist Wealth Management BU Control leadership on implementing the Enterprise Risk Management framework and ensure adherence to maintaining the control processes in accordance with the highest standards and best practices.
  • Support management in the development, maintenance and enhancement of required program data, repositories, and business intelligence solutions to communicate risks, issues and overall compliance with the ERM Program.
  • Ability to work independently and lead activities to gather, translate, build, and operationalize project/program requirements and source system data into reporting solutions for the Wealth Management Division.
  • Apply best practices and solve complex problems with a forward-looking mindset to proactively anticipate any potential issues, prevent them and/or define pragmatic contingency plans.
  • Timely communicate any risk metrics out of compliance with targets or trending to out of compliance to Wealth Management Division and BU Control leadership.
  • Ability to explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus.
  • Foster and promote Northern Trust's commitment to a strong risk management culture by developing a control mindset with the Business.


The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • Experience with various reporting platforms such as Power BI and Incorta.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • 6+ years of Risk and Control Reporting experience required.
  • In-depth business intelligence and data management experience with new and complex initiatives.
  • Ability to establish trust-based relationships with stakeholders across enterprise (e.g., experience with acting as a constructive conduit between business and non-business teams)
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Openness to self-learning, improvement, and experimentation.
  • Technical skills: Outlook, Teams, Microsoft Office 365 suite required (advanced with Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, SharePoint, Teams, PowerApps, Power BI).
