6 month+ hybrid roles in New Orleans, LA

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Architect to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of a complex city-wide network infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of network architecture, security protocols, and hands-on experience with firewall technologies, particularly Palo Alto Networks solutions. Candidate must be strong in client communication and be able to articulate confidence with findings. This person will have some support from the team but must be able to lead and understand overall network topologies including Palo Alto Firewalls.

We will be using NetBrain as the tool for discovering devices and leveraging it to pull documentation together.
Responsibilities:
Network Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of the city's existing network infrastructure, identifying vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. Identify the major gaps across platforms, from Server Infrastructure, End user Computing, Networking, and Cyber Security Postures. This initial rapid assessment will focus on the security preparedness of the City s tech stack
Network Design: Develop comprehensive network designs, including logical and physical topologies, addressing scalability, redundancy, and security requirements.
Firewall Implementation: Design, deploy, and configure Palo Alto Networks firewalls to secure network perimeters, enforce security policies, and protect critical infrastructure.
Security Architecture: Implement robust security measures, such as intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and access control mechanisms, to safeguard the network from cyber threats.
Performance Optimization: Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize network configurations to ensure optimal throughput, latency, and reliability.
Capacity Planning: Forecast future network needs and plan for capacity expansion to accommodate growth and evolving technological requirements.
Vendor Management: Collaborate with network equipment vendors to procure and integrate new technologies and solutions.
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of network architecture, configuration, and operational procedures.
Team Leadership: Mentor and guide network engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Must be able to go onsite in New Orleans when needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in network architecture and engineering.
Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, etc.) and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
Proven expertise in designing and implementing complex network solutions.
Extensive experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including configuration, troubleshooting, and security policies.
Strong knowledge of network security best practices and threat mitigation techniques.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
Certifications in network engineering (CCNP, CCIE) and security (e.g., Palo Alto Networks certifications) a plus.
