Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Research on the Research team, this role is responsible for conducting analytical, technical, survey and project support to the Director, Market and Economic Research and Vice President, Research. This role is also responsible for outsourced project research, report writing, data analysis, and internal staff surveys as well as supporting the use of data to serve the AIA membership and larger industry.

This position reports to the Vice President, Research.

Job Duties:

Research

  • Lead market research studies, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies,
    • Serve as project manager, including project scope, schedule management, questionnaire design, data analysis, and report development.
    • Conduct qualitative studies, including focus groups, in-depth interviews, and literature reviews.
    • Distill and author study findings into digestible content (e.g., reports, presentations, articles).
    • Conduct survey studies, including design, programming, data analysis, etc.
    • Perform data analysis with quantitative packages such as SPSS and Microsoft Excel.
  • Support Research team programs.
    • Serve as data steward for the organization.
    • Represent the team on data projects across the AIA.
    • Work with the Director, Market and Economic Research to serve as liaison between vendors, consultants and other AIA departments/internal clients to assure quality and timeliness of projects and adherence to contract specifications.
    • Manage internal market research survey panels.
    • Manage the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) subscription process and revenue generation of AIA s business reports (including the AIA Compensation Survey).
    • Lead annual recruitment and retention efforts for the panels, including writing recruitment pieces and developing new strategies.
    • Post, update, and manage market research content on AIA.org.
    • Support team and organizational leaders with data analysis, chart preparations, PowerPoint slide design, and written reports for internal and external use.
    • Respond to AIA members and general public inquiries, via phone and email, regarding the department s research initiatives.
  • Manage AIA s intelligence on residential home design.
    • Lead the AIA Home Design Trends Survey and report.
    • Coordinate with member and outside experts.
    • Serve as a resource on the data and findings.
  • Support product development
    • Assist in the development and delivery of the AIA s core business intelligence projects, including the AIA Compensation survey, the AIA Business of Architecture study, and Architecture Billings Index (ABI).
    • Provide data visualizations, via MS PowerBI or similar tool
    • Help with data mining to create new products for different customer audiences, including dashboards, etc.
    • Support AIA s data transformation efforts

Qualifications

Considerable skills in research, data analysis, and problem solving. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have familiarity with SPSS (or other statistical packages) and Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint. Must have familiarity with SurveyMonkey and/or other survey software and be experienced creating, editing, and executing surveys. Experience with leading focus groups preferred. Experience with or interest in data mining and data visualization strongly preferred. Must have familiarity with Microsoft Power BI or other comparable data visualization platforms. Ability to interact effectively in an individual membership environment, manage multiple projects, set priorities and recognize the importance of deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to put data into context and draft content to different audiences. Knowledge of the architecture, design and construction industry preferred but not required.

Bachelor s degree in one of the Social Sciences (economics, sociology, psychology, public policy) or Business (market research, management, finance), with 5-7 years of work experience in a research environment preferred.

Work Location: Hybrid-Washington, DC area

All AIA employees in the DC metro area are currently working remotely during our office renovation. Employees in the DC Metro area will have the option to return to the newly renovated office at the completion of the renovation in Spring 2025.
