Baffinland is hiring for Electricians (Red Seal)


Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings, specifications, and applicable codes to determine wiring layouts;
  • Install, replace, maintain and repair diesel generators, electrical panel and related electrical equipment;
  • Troubleshoot major equipment, switchgear, electrical panel, generator, pump, fan, etc.;
  • Cut, threat, bend, assemble and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings;
  • Pull wire through conduits and holes in walls and floors;
  • Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures;
  • Install, replace, maintain and repair electrical systems and related electrical equipment;
  • Install data cabling;
  • Splice, join and connect wire to form circuits;
  • Test circuits to ensure integrity and safety;
  • Install and maintain fiber optic systems;
  • May specialize in renewable energy (ex: wind/solar).




Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Primary Skills & Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician;
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience ideally in an industrial plant environment: Mining, Oil and Gas, etc.;
  • Experience with 600V, 5kV and 13.8kV switchgear operations;
  • Experience with VFD drives, various instrumentation sensors and transmitters;
  • Knowledge of PLC: Allen Bradley AC Drives, Control Logix PLC, automated circuit, motors and motor control circuits;
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical safety codes.
Secondary Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage time effectively, while handling multiple jobs with varying priorities;
  • Able to carry out electrical troubleshooting;
  • Experience with Mentoring Apprentices;
  • Able to climb ladders;
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications as required;
  • Languages: ability to speak English, read English, and write English (language abilities in Inuktitut would be considered an asset);
  • Previous mining experience is an asset;
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Physically fit to perform all aspects of job.
