Lockheed Martin Space is seeking Summer 2025 Optical or Electro-Optical Engineering Intern. In this role, you will work with a team on a variety of optical engineering related tasks that are focused on either laser development or optical design and analysis. The successful candidate will have experience and/or knowledge either in 1) the build or design of laser systems, or 2) in optical design and analysis, work optical laboratory operations, and optical CAD (Code V, Zemax, or OSLO). This position is located at a facility that requires special access.
Basic Qualifications
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in, or related to one of the following fields:
Physics, Optical Science/Engineering or related discipline
Basic knowledge of geometrical optics
Working knowledge of optical laboratory setups and operations
In addition the candidate should have at least 1 of the following.
Basic knowledge of laser design of laser and/or nonlinear optical systems and devices
Experience with optical analysis in various optical CAD programs (Code V, Zemax, or OSLO).
Familiarity with optical detectors that operate in the visible to the IR spectral regions
In addition you
Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
Desired skills
Demonstrated ability using optical CAD (i.e. Code V, ZEMAX)
Basic knowledge of MATLAB or other programming software
Basic knowledge of stray light
Experience building or developing lasers
Experience developing detector technologies
Experienced with both product development and technology development in the Optical or Electro-Optical technologies.

Work Schedule Information

Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $20,904 - $61,672. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
