Join Team Indigo at Wellmark
Searching for work-life balance with actual career benefits? Indigo is Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield s internal creative and communications agency dedicated to delivering custom campaigns to Wellmark s largest accounts. This position offers genuine growth, leadership and creative freedom.
The lead copywriter would work collaboratively with the rest of the team to consult with our external clients about their benefits challenges, then deliver recommendations for multi-touch campaigns in the client s brand and voice. The final materials simplify health and pharmacy benefits for the reader, encourage healthy habits, and ensure they always know how to get the right care, at the right cost.
A top candidate would provide:
- The ability to translate complex health-related information and jargon into smart, empathetic, plain-language copy that people want to read.
- Impeccable writing and editing skills across tactics: long- and shortform, print and digital and everything in between.
- Demonstrated success with developing creative themes, taglines, and concepts that can drive entire campaigns.
- The ability to research, learn, and digest new and complicated information quickly. (Insurance knowledge is a plus but not a must.)
- A passion for looking out for the interests of the reader. You care deeply about their ability to understand what is being said so they can make the best health decisions possible for themselves and their families.
- Curiosity around health care trends and what could be the resulting communications solutions.
- A strategic mindset for collaborating with account managers to identify and recommend client-specific content strategy.
- A creative mindset for collaborating with graphic designers from concept to execution.
- Strong proofreading, pitching, presenting, and time-management skills.
- Confidence in building rapport with clients and nurturing good working relationships.
- Experience mentoring writers.
Required:
- Bachelor s degree or direct and applicable work experience.
- 6+ years of marketing communications, creative writing, or communications writing experience that demonstrates:
- Excellent creative writing skills.
- Excellent editing/proofreading skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of AP style.
- Prior agency experience is strongly preferred.
- Viewed as a trusted advisor to clients and stakeholders due to an ability to quickly develop business acumen (new topics, products, services, etc.), exhibiting excellent consulting and listening skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to distill information and write creative copy that translates business objectives and speaks to the end audience.
- Self-starter with effective project coordination skills, including planning, time management, prioritization, organization, and the ability to oversee multiple priorities for the team. Flexible and adaptable with changing priorities.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback, and to foster cooperation and collaboration across teams.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word.
- Strong portfolio of finished work showcasing copywriting excellence across a broad spectrum of media touch points.
- Travel required between 5-10%
Preferred:
- B2B and B2C marketing experience.
- Insurance, financial services, or health care industry experience.
- Ability to coach and mentor others.
Additional Information
a. Demonstrates advanced copywriting expertise across a variety of marketing executions, including but not limited to collateral, direct mail, video and online communication.
b. Set strategic verbal direction for all creative executions. Reviews all deliverables for message clarity and understandability relative to marketing strategy and provides feedback/mentorship to junior copywriting team members. Lead creative brainstorming sessions that inspire new ideas for content development.
c. Exercises distinctly different direct-to-consumer and business-to-business copywriting techniques, demonstrating an understanding of the appropriate context for each. Fact checks copy, ensures grammatical accuracy and adherence to legal requirements.
d. Collaborates closely with graphic designers throughout concept development, presentation, and execution. Leads brainstorming efforts, creating unique concepts and develop messaging for new campaigns and whatever other materials are needed.
e. Lead the thematic direction and resulting copy and tone vision for client HR brand and identity projects.
f. Proactively seek out training to develop expert knowledge of Wellmark product/service offerings, emerging copywriting techniques and creative trends and using that knowledge to continually enhance communication efforts.
g. Ensures the Indigo team stays contemporary on Wellmark corporate brand standards and voice and ensures Wellmark-branded work developed by Indigo stays true to those standards.
h. Builds and maintains strong relationships with Wellmark MarCom editing staff, reviewing all Wellmark-branded work developed by Indigo with that team.
i. Participate in winning new business by helping ideate, structure, and prepare materials for pitch meetings, and attending them when needed.
j. Use content management system and project tracking software to log and track writing projects. Perform administrative duties associated with job archiving and file maintenance.
k. Other duties as assigned.
