We are currently in search of a Strategic Communications Specialist to provide support to the Chief Information Officer for the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence office at the Department of Defense. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing communication strategies that bolster cyber policy, practices, and authorizations. Your responsibilities will include refining organizational messaging, advocating for key initiatives, and engaging with stakeholders through various platforms. Additionally, you will formulate strategies and materials that may significantly influence the enterprise’s operations, assets, or reputation. We seek an individual who exhibits sound judgment, remains composed in dynamic environments, pays exceptional attention to detail, and skillfully manages multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute strategic communication plans that align with the organization’s objectives.
  • Produce clear and compelling messages that effectively convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Maintain consistent messaging and uphold brand identity across all communication channels.
  • Collaborate with the Training team to design, develop, and implement cyber training materials.
  • Organize and execute strategic offsite events for the Cyber Assurance Office and DoD leadership.
  • Manage and refresh content for digital platforms, including websites and social media.
  • Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and reports tailored for senior leadership.
  • Monitor media coverage and public perception concerning cybersecurity and IT initiatives.
  • Coordinate communication campaigns and events aimed at promoting cybersecurity awareness.
  • Provide strategic counsel and guidance on communication strategies and issues management.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Legal and Public Policy.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic communications, preferably within a technology or cybersecurity context.
  • A Secret clearance is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Profound understanding of cybersecurity concepts with the ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Outstanding writing and editing capabilities, with a knack for creating engaging content.
  • Experience managing digital communication channels effectively.
  • Capacity to excel in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with crisis communication and issues management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of government regulations and policies pertinent to cybersecurity and IT is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications in communications or related fields are beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced PowerPoint skills.
