SUMMARY
The position of Estimator is responsible for costing and processing customer requested quotes, on a timely basis, for the Sales Department. The Estimator will also provide technical support to the sales team, design engineering department, and standard parts order desk, as required. This role reports to the VP, Sales and is a key role within the department.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creating layouts/mold concepts in CAD, for the purpose of estimating, that reflects the specific customer design requests.
- Works closely with Sales team in developing quotes that will result in profitable orders.
- Preparing timely estimates of costs of materials, labor, and equipment for manufacturing projects based on 3D models or 2D drawings, and customer specifications.
- Reviews and makes appropriate layout and process changes, and then modifies pricing to suit most effective manufacturing solution based on supplied information.
- Negotiating project costs as it relates to machining services, vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Liaise with customers on early mold concepts to support project proposals.
- Work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, manufacturing, planning, scheduling, and supply chain to identify and resolve manufacturing and costing issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Post-Secondary education Mechanical Engineering Degree/Diploma preferred.
- Must have minimum 5 years of recent experience in the injection mold industry, preferably in an estimating role.
- Familiar with all manufacturing processes, in a mold manufacturing environment, to ensure accurate quoting is performed.
- Experience in thin wall, closure and/or other custom injection molds.
- Strong experience in mold assembly design, capable of producing mold concepts using CAD (2D-3D) technology. Unigraphics NX preferred.
- Ability to communicate technical aspects of mold concept/design to sales and engineering teams.
- Exposure to machining practices, process planning and sub-contracting experience for quoting.
- Strong understanding of business concepts; gross margins, currency conversion, job costing.
- Intermediate level competency with MS Excel
