Quanta Canada Renewables (QCR) is a new entity within the Quanta family of companies, dedicated to providing the premier turnkey solutions for the full engineering and construction of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects in Canada. As an Estimator, you will be able to shape the development of a new organization s processes and procedures while leveraging industry-leading best practices, decades of expertise, and the support of the largest utility contractor in North America to support the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Canada.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Estimator is responsible for the overall planning and coordination efforts to produce comprehensive project cost estimates for utility-scale (100 MW+) wind and solar projects. Working in conjunction with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent, the Estimator will determine contractor and labor needs, calculate job profitability, prepare and submit bids, and maintain cost databases. The Estimator will leverage the tools, established processes, and Lean best practices from the Quanta Renewable Energy Platform (QREP) to deliver consistency, quality, and productivity to ultimately drive profitability for all QCR projects.
Location: the Estimator is permitted to use a hybrid work schedule (minimum of three days in office and other days remote). Travel to (potential) project sites is required prior to proposal submission and required during project construction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.Project Planning & Estimation
Develops initial project-specific schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager, engineering design, scheduling, field accounting, and construction staff
Collaborate with project managers, field leadership, and engineers to identify Lean process improvement opportunities, propose system modifications, and devise data strategies
Develops crew-based production estimate based upon research and historic productivities; and develop proposal documents for submittal and leads proposal presentation to client
Prepare bid review with estimation methodology, assumptions, historical data analysis, risk and opportunity matrix development to facilitate decision-making specific to margins
Collaboration with engineering team throughout design process to ensure clarity with and constructability of designs
2.Customer Service & Coordination
Execute on the Quanta business model which safely delivers renewable energy projects that are well-built, delivered on-time, within budget and delight clients
Request and aggregate key customer information and inputs into project estimation tools
Review project estimates with clients to ensure understanding and alignment around project scope, schedules, budgets, and material procurement needs
Respond to client requests in a manner that collaborates for mutual success
3.Procurement & Vendor Management
Coordinate with procurement, scheduling, and project development teams on local bidding efforts
Develops and/or oversees subcontractor and supplier scope, price, and schedule exhibits for subcontract and purchase order packages
Work with procurement teams to coordinate local and First Nation bidding efforts
Requirements
SKILLS:
Strong people relationship and team-building skills
Self-starter with superior problem evaluation/solving skills
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the multi-disciplinary teams
Strong understanding of project design and integrated EPC process
Ability to segment construction means and methods and assign crew-based productions
Strong understanding of how to build and implement dynamic estimating tools, and models, and crew-based estimating
Ability to coach, teach, and mentor junior staff to develop technical and operational proficiency
Basic proficiency with scheduling software (Primavera P6 preferred) and estimating software (Hard Dollar experience a plus)
Required Education and Experience:Bachelor s Degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent
Previous experience performing construction, contracting, and projects in the Power Generation industry
4-6 years Estimating Experience is required.
Must be versed in various aspects of engineering design and construction, and contracting methodologies, as well as project planning and management-related tasks and activities including, but not limited to, engineering, estimating, scheduling, bidding, project management and administration and management of prime contracts, preparation and administration of purchase orders and subcontracts, field supervision, budget control, safety, quality assurance, etc.
Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in renewable energy construction work activities
