Position Description
The Data Architecture (DA) team at Harvard Medical School is dedicated to enhancing data-driven decision-making through the development of the Delphi data warehouse, which integrates Administrative and Education data from over 50 sources. Work Format Details
This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.

As a vital member of this team, the Business Intelligence Developer will serve as a consultant for departments across the medical school, ensuring they are able to effectively leverage Delphi data for operational and reporting needs. This role is pivotal in providing insightful, actionable data visualizations and reports that facilitate data-informed decisions at all levels of the organization.
Core Duties:
Tableau Development
- Design, create, and maintain interactive Tableau dashboards for school-wide reporting.
- Collaborate with smaller departments without their own Tableau developers to deliver customized reporting solutions.
- Develop robust Tableau Data sources for larger departments, enabling their Tableau developers to create and manage their own dashboards effectively.
Business Analysis and Requirements Gathering
- Actively engage with stakeholders across the school, from administrative staff to senior leadership, to understand their data requirements and reporting needs.
- Gather and document detailed business requirements for reporting and dashboard solutions, translating them into actionable development plans.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create tailored reporting and dashboard solutions that address specific business questions and objectives.
Data Analysis
- Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure data integrity and quality for all BI reporting and analytics.
Tableau Administration
- Administer and manage Tableau Servers, including cloud services and software, ensuring optimal performance, security, and accessibility for users.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Tableau Server issues, implementing updates and patches as necessary.
Mentorship and Training
- Mentor new Tableau users, providing training sessions and resources to enhance their proficiency in utilizing Tableau for data analysis and visualization.
- Foster a culture of data literacy within the organization by offering ongoing support and guidance.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on the latest developments in business intelligence tools and technologies, integrating new practices and features into current workflows.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the existing BI infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in a stakeholder-facing Business Analyst role, with a strong focus on data visualization and reporting.
- Proficient in SQL and Tableau; Candidates may be asked to show a portfolio of previous dashboard and reporting projects.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various levels of the organization.
- A proactive learner with a desire to expand skills by learning new technologies and best practices.
- Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
