General Summary
The Dispensary Technician is responsible for the operation of the Dispensary including dispensing, inventory management, and insurance processing while ensuring efficient and effective service that provides the highest quality of care to its patients.
Essential Job Function/Competencies
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsibilities include evaluation of medication orders, facilitation of prescriptions through insurance process, filling and packaging of prescription orders, maintenance and ordering of equipment and medication inventory.
- Organization and filing of prescriptions and other required documentation, evaluation and improvement of operations workflow through team communication.
- Conducts select reports and compliance-check activities.
- Maintains responsibility for identifying opportunities to conserve financial resources in day-to-day activities and planning.
- Abides and files all required records for controlled substances according to State Agency regulations.
- Accurate prescription entry into pharmacy software and proper labeling of dispensable product.
- Restock and maintain packaging supplies associated with dispensing activities.
- Maintains inventory by inspecting dispensary stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed medications and supplies; verifying receipt; and removing outdated drugs.
- Responsible for keeping an inventory log of medication needs of practice updated and reviewed according to guidelines.
- Prepares daily morning reports for dispensary operations.
- Accepts and processes accurate payments from patients in exchange for medications.
- Makes outbound calls to patients for medication compliance.
- Processes insurance claims and posts payments according to guidelines.
- Establishes and maintains patient records and all required files and records for Dispensary.
- Monitors Drug Recalls-keeping logs and acts appropriately discussing with Oral Leadership team.
- Handles all medication returns to the appropriate dispensing party and discusses with Oral Leadership team.
- Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
- Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Pharmacy Technician License as required by state.
- Identifies problems and recommends solutions in daily work and for assigned projects/programs to improve service.
- Understands and complies with policies, procedures and practices.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Seeks financial resources and alternative funding available for appropriate patients such as copay foundations, copay cards, and indigent programs prior to receiving treatment, and managing the processes of keeping all these functions flowing with renewals, updates, etc.
- Complies with all health and safety policies of the medical practice.
- Maintains a safe, clean and orderly dispensary by complying with company rules and regulations.
- Safeguards and retains confidentiality of patient information, using it as only needed to perform legitimate duties.
- Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Basic knowledge of insurance plans and billing.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
- Maintains a safe, clean and orderly dispensary by complying with company procedures, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Pharmacy Experience preferred.
- One (1) year experience in an institutional or specialty pharmacy with dispensing experience and inventory management.
