Overview:

The Office of Change Management and Operational Excellence within the Facilities and Operations Directorate is seeking a Change Management Specialist to focus primarily on the human aspects of changes related to ORNL's Information Technology (IT) project portfolio. The selected candidate will join a new team providing change management and operational performance consulting and support services to organizations throughout ORNL and will work closely with IT project managers from the Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD). A growing body of data shows a strong correlation between the success of a change initiative and how well the people side of the change is managed. This role provides consultation to leaders on how to achieve their outcomes by focusing on the people side of change, including changes to processes, systems and technology, job roles, and organization structures. They will also be expected to collaborate with individuals from other disciplines like process engineering, project management, communications, and user experience to provide human-centered solutions for ORNL's workforce. Through the execution of this transformation program, the person in this position will have a direct impact on ORNL's mission

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide change management thought leadership to various organizations to guide the implementation of successful project outcomes. This involves understanding the organization's culture, identifying potential risks, and creating plans for successful adoption.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for facilitating change management efforts related to IT projects and work with other change practitioners in the Office of Change Management and Operational Excellence to ensure the project portfolio is fully supported.
  • Drive for continuous improvement in the approach that we use to manage the change portfolio, bring industry best practices to inform a structured change management methodology to evaluate and plan for the people side of change.
  • Formulate the change management strategies for various needs: evaluate the changes, how big changes are, and who will be impacted to develop a customized and scaled strategy for managing the people side of the initiative. Developing and implementing change management strategies and plans that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Develop change management plans for cross-cutting implementation efforts: create tailored, comprehensive plans for moving people forward, including communication, sponsorship, coaching, training, and resistance management.
  • Work with the initiative lead to execute the change management plan using a flexible approach based on end-user needs and feedback.
  • Use data analytics and testing methods to perform impact, readiness, and sustainment assessments.
  • Defining key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of the implementation. This involves analyzing system's performance data and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Post-Implementation/sustainment support: assisting with post-implementation activities, such as user adoption monitoring, identifying optimization opportunities, and providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support other roles: serve as the coach and the go-to person responsible for enabling success with the other roles vital to change management.

Basic Qualifications:
  • BA or BS in an organizational change management, behavioral science, or process engineering discipline with at least 5 years of experience leading changes that directly influence people or a MA or MS in similar disciplines with at least 4 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading change in large, complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • A solid understanding of how people go through a change and the change process.
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies, and tools.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience that crosscuts with other disciplines that can be used to create more wholistic human-centered solutions like process engineering, Lean Six-Sigma, communications, and user experience.
  • Change management certification or designation desired. Prosci certification preferred.
  • Experience as an organizational change management practitioner for technology transformation projects or IT systems and services.
  • Experience working in a DOE or other research facility.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbalExcellent active listening skills
