The Accountant position exists to ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting, payroll, and financial reporting functions. Provides status of financial condition of the company through collection and reporting key financial data. Responsible for cost and general accounting and accounts receivable functions.

Essential Functions

General Accounting:

  • Works with Controller to facilitate accurate accounting records.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries for recurring transactions, prepaids and accruals.
  • On a monthly basis, reconciles balance sheet accounts.
  • Assists with financial close and variance analysis.
  • Documents and updates all accounting cycle procedures.
  • Assists as needed with annual audit and tax return preparation.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is a requirement of the position.

Accounts Receivable/Billing

  • Maintains account receivable balances in the general ledger.
  • Compares imports to prior months to ensure the proper revenue type is being used.
  • Monitors the ‘Unapplied payments’ account to make sure all payments are being applied.

Payroll

  • Files appropriate quarterly payroll taxes . Pays payroll taxes in a timely and accurate manner, pursuant to payroll cycles.
  • Participates in the annual workers’ compensation audit and the annual 401(k) audit.
  • Imports ADP payrolls journal entries into Great Plains.

Banking And Cash Management

  • Timely preparation of monthly bank reconciliation.
  • Daily posting of cash transactions to Daily Cash Management records.
  • Daily updating of Great Plains cash balances for all transactions.
  • Serves as backup for daily depositing of cash.

Misc

  • Documents all related policies and procedures. Maintains and updates as appropriate.

Non-Essential Functions/Other Duties

  • Performs any other tasks assigned by management

Supervisory Responsibility: Not applicable.

Travel Required: Minimal.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role, with frequent sitting and computer keyboarding (10-key) required. Some lifting (up to 35 pounds), stooping and bending are required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • At least an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, with a strong preference for a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • At least two years of previous accounting, billing, and payroll related experience, preferably in a medical office environment.

Skills And Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial concepts, including experience in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong keyboarding and computer skills to include MS Office ( Outlook, Word and Excel) experience at an intermediate level . 10-key data entry proficiency .
  • Proficiency in Great Plains .
  • Experience working with basic office machinery and equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, multi-line phone systems, etc.
  • Strong analytical skills, especially as it relates to mathematical aptitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates initiative, with the ability to manage self and workload.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities . Good mathematical aptitude.
  • Exemplary customer service focus, for both internal and external clients.
  • Able to work both independently and be self-directed, as well as being able to perform in a team atmosphere.
  • Displays professionalism and represents organization in a professional manner.
  • Ability to abide by ethical guidelines and policies , including strict adherence to confidentiality and HIP A A guidelines .

  • Must be 18 years old or older.
