Who we need
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, we are looking for a Manager of Engineering to lead a team of 10+ talented, highly technical engineers. You will play a pivotal role in driving engineering excellence and innovation. You will evaluate and optimize proposed solutions to meet client needs and industry standards.
Who you are
You are a Senior Engineer ready to move to the next level, or you may be an Engineering Manager ready for a change. You have strong people and project management capabilities and exceptional communication skills. You understand the design for manufacturing process and have experience planning resources to meet shifting project needs. You can leverage expertise and insights into the big picture to develop strategic plans and drive projects to completion.

You will:
- Drive strategic initiatives. You will lead and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement to enhance engineering processes and capabilities. You will spearhead cross-functional collaborations to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
- Provide technical expertise. You will guide design engineering, focusing on material selection and processing. You will lead the development of practical designs using sheet metal, injection moulding, acrylic, plastic, aluminum extrusion, and wood. You will leverage strong DFMA principles and ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
- Manage projects. You will oversee project timelines, ensuring on-time delivery of engineering solutions. You will manage resources effectively to meet project demands and optimize team performance.
- Engage with clients. You will participate in client meetings to develop a deep understanding of their needs, present tailored engineering solutions and gather feedback.
- Promote sustainability. You will champion innovative engineering practices and explore new technologies. You will prioritize integrating sustainability considerations into engineering processes and product designs.
You have:
- The experience. You have extensive experience in engineering management, with a background in retail display, furniture, or consumer product manufacturing. You have a strong understanding of designing for aesthetics and function. You understand not just materials but how to process them and how various characteristics and parameters change in manufacturing. You have exposure to a range of product manufacturing machinery and tools.
- The leadership. You are a proven leader with experience managing a mid-size engineering team. You can influence with and without authority, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. You can draw on your technical knowledge to assign, guide, and oversee the team's work. You can provide mentorship, manage conflict, champion the team's work, and remove barriers to enable their best work. You can identify strengths and areas for improvement of individuals and the group, setting development goals for engineering teams.
- The technical skills. You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks, PDM, and other relevant design software. You can learn new technologies quickly. You are process-oriented and highly attentive to detail. You have experience designing for, understanding the technical limitations and benefits, and directly working with injection moulding, sheet metal, and sheet plastic (acrylic). Ideally, you have also worked with wood, aluminum extrusion, and finishes. You may have experience with machining or CNC.
- The project management. You have proven strengths in balancing multiple complex projects simultaneously. You can manage competing deadlines, set and adapt timelines, solve practical problems and deal with complex variables in situations under pressure.
- The interpersonal skills. You have exceptional communication skills. You can build trust with your team, across the organization and with clients. You can confidently present engineering solutions to clients, translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. You may have experience working with off-shore teams. You have an appreciation for diverse experiences, opinions, and approaches.
