Job Description

Packaging Project Engineer

Location:Onsite at Minster, OH Facility

Contract Duration:6 months

Overview:The Packaging Project Engineer will be an integral part of the plant manufacturing engineering team, focusing on the integration and optimization of packaging systems within a high-speed production environment. This role is specifically geared toward expertise in industrial packaging machines, rather than the development of materials and testing. The position will involve working on a critical project to enhance raw milk processing capacity through the integration of packaging systems and process skids. The ideal candidate will have experience in full line integration and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of industrial packaging systems within the plant, focusing on improving efficiency, quality, and capacity.
  • Manage the integration of new packaging equipment with existing systems, ensuring compatibility and smooth operation, with a strong emphasis on machinery rather than material development.
  • Work closely with external vendors (e.g., GEA) to specify and integrate purpose-built process skids into the packaging line.
  • Participate in and manage capital projects related to packaging systems, including new construction, equipment upgrades, and system modifications.
  • Coordinate project efforts between contractors, internal teams, and the manufacturing facility to ensure timely and successful project execution.
  • Develop technical specifications, P&IDs, and layout designs for packaging systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company requirements.
  • Ensure that packaging solutions meet business needs, including new product launches, process innovations, and system enhancements.
  • Conduct risk analysis, resource planning, and project management tasks to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the maintenance and operations teams, including troubleshooting and resolving packaging system issues.
  • Continuously improve methods and tools used for packaging engineering, including process specifications and equipment standards.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Packaging Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in packaging engineering, with a focus on high-speed packaging systems and line integration.
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry, particularly in dairy, is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management processes, including budgeting, risk analysis, and resource management.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of industrial packaging systems design, integration, and optimization within a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with full line integration, including the coordination of new and existing systems to ensure seamless operation.
  • Proficiency in technical design software (e.g., AutoCAD) and project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with packaging systems, and to lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance, including OSHA and FDA guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in dairy or food/beverage process engineering and knowledge of PMO and 3A standards.
  • Certification in project management or related methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, PMP).
  • Previous experience working with process skids and integration in a food manufacturing environment.
