Job Summary:

The Network Yield Manager is responsible for managing and optimizing the profitability and efficiency of the company s trucking network. This role focuses on maximizing revenue through strategic balancing of freight load capacity, pricing, and route efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of the trucking industry, and the ability to collaborate effectively with operations, sales, and logistics teams to enhance network performance and profitability.

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Yield Optimization:

  • Monitor and manage the utilization of trucks and trailers to ensure optimal load capacity.
  • Analyze demand patterns, freight rates, and operational costs to maximize profitability.
  • Develop pricing strategies for freight lanes, balancing volume and revenue targets

Network Planning & Optimization:

  • Design and maintain efficient routing networks to minimize empty miles and maximize truck utilization.
  • Identify opportunities for load consolidation and optimization of delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate with dispatchers and route planners to adjust routes based on real-time conditions and opportunities.

Data Analysis & Forecasting:

  • Analyze historical data and trends to forecast demand, capacity, and necessary pricing adjustments.
  • Utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and enhance network performance, including load factor, revenue per mile, and cost per mile.
  • Monitor market conditions, fuel prices, and economic trends to adapt strategies accordingly.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with sales and customer service teams to align pricing strategies with customer needs and market dynamics.
  • Communicate effectively with operations and fleet management teams to ensure network adjustments are executed efficiently.
  • Provide insights to management regarding potential opportunities and risks within the network.

Technology & Tools:

  • Leverage transportation management systems (TMS) and advanced analytics tools to enhance network efficiency.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies in logistics, including automation, AI, and IoT, to improve decision-making.

Revenue Management:

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase overall profitability of the trucking network.
  • Create and execute plans to optimize lane density, reduce empty miles, and enhance revenue per truckload.
  • Adjust freight rates and pricing based on competitive market dynamics
Requirements:
  • Bachelor s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or a similar role focused on yield management or network optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in data analytics and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) and freight pricing models.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and make real-time decisions.
  • Familiarity with market trends in the trucking industry, fuel prices, and regulations.

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience with load optimization and route planning software.
  • Understanding of freight brokerage and third-party logistics (3PL) operations.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, or other data analysis tools.
