Senior Architect
BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Architect to join our team, supporting the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Architectural Engineering Services Unit (AESU) and Facilities Management Unit (FMU) responsible for architectural, engineering and planning (AEP) services. AEP service requirements will include design and engineering services and on-site AE services. This position will be at the FBI Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate with FBI peer colleagues, Project Managers and other FBI personnel/contractors, and other project team members on projects as necessary; provide other similar or related services not of a decision-making nature
- Provide miscellaneous services that require proficiency in the use of Microsoft s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, Facilities Integration Tool (FIT), cost estimation software tools, and AutoCAD
- Assist in the development of reports and studies
- Exhibit good customer service skills and be a cooperative team player
- Multitask and take on multiple projects or assignments simultaneously
- Collaborate and assist in resolving critical and possibly controversial issues with a multi-disciplined team of architects, engineers, and federal agency clients
- Understand and implement standards as outlined in the FBI Program of Requirements (POR); suggest edits or updates to this document, as applicable
- Perform construction administration duties, such as reviewing and answering requests for information (RFI), reviewing submittals, reviewing and producing field reports, walking the site and verifying accuracy and compliance of construction with drawings and POR requirements, participating in creation and closeout of punch-list, and more
- Assist in the preparation of scope of work (SOW) for design-bid-build and design-build procurements including creating performance-based vs. prescriptive requirements
- Review proposals, documents, drawings, and specifications for accuracy and ability to meet POR requirements; provide comments and/or recommendations as necessary
- Provide document review of campus design and construction standards
- Act as a consultant in the establishment of design standards and criteria for construction projects
- Provide on-site field survey measurements and verification including documentation of space, equipment, workflow, required adjacencies, communication, and organizational requirements; provide recommendations based on observations
- Develop SOWs for Architectural and Engineering (AE) One (AE1) services (planning and programming) and support the government with procurement efforts for design-build (DB) procurement
- Prepare stacking plans to accommodate functionality and adjacency requirements; prepare blocking plans, schematic or conceptual designs, and design intent drawings in AutoCAD; ensure that drawings and specifications which are submitted to the FBI for review comply with POR requirements
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team of design/construction professionals on projects as assigned
- Prepare briefs and presentations to illustrate design concepts
- Perform design reviews and submit comments in required format
- Manage design of projects throughout the project, from programming to post-occupancy; includes building and maintaining relationships with end user, local team, subject matter experts, etc.
- Provide support in development and evaluation of project schedules
- Maintain knowledge on recent versions of the International Building Code and Commentary (IBC), the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS), and all pertinent federal accessibility standards
Key Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship and a Secret Security Clearance (NACI) at time of hire and ability to obtain a Top-Secret level security clearance is required
- Knowledge: Familiarity with recent versions of the IBC, UFAS, and all pertinent federal accessibility standards is required
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Software: Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Project software tools, SharePoint, FIT, cost estimation software tools, and AutoCAD is required
- Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously
Experience & Education
- Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years experience of professional, architectural code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required
- Education: Completion of a course of studies accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) for an architectural program from a college or university earning a Bachelor's or Master s degree in Architecture, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities design experience, is required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
- Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
