The Information Sciences Group in the Computer, Computational and Statistical Sciences Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory has an immediate postdoctoral position a

vailable for a talented and motivated researcher to work on the intersection of data-driven learning, uncertainty quantification, and machine learning, of dynamical systems.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with dynamic and multidisciplinary research teams that bridges applied mathematics, computational physics, statistics,

and computer science.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Experience : PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computational or Statistical Physics, Applied Statistics, or Computational Science & Engineering, completed within the last 5 years or to be completed soon.

The successful candidate must have:
  • Fundamental understanding or experience in Koopman and/or Mori-Zwanzig formalism
  • Fundamental understanding or experience in Kalman and/or Bayesian filters.
  • Experience in data-driven and/or machine learning (ML) methods for dynamical systems, as evidenced through a strong scientific record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Excellent programming skills and experience with modern ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow) and tools beyond online courses or certifications.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary scientific environment with tight deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in developing and implementing data-driven learning methods from scratch.
  • Experience with high-performance computing, GPU programming, parallel programing, and related paradigms.
  • Willingness to explore, learn, and implement emerging data-driven and ML methods.
  • Familiarity with best software engineering practices, including testing, code version control and continuous integration workflows.

The work location for this position is onsite (in person) and located in Los Alamos, NM.
