General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electronic Component Engineer to join our team located in Centennial, Colorado. We are looking for someone whose expertise as an Electronic Component Engineer will guide the team develop and evolve our standards for EEE component testing, screening, and qualification. This role consists of supporting the department with mitigating the cost, performance, and scheduling risks by guiding EEE component selection for satellite avionics designs.

The successful candidate will report to the Space Electrical Design Team Manager and, alongside high-caliber staff, will be engaged in the engineering support and new development of satellite and space systems, advanced sensors, High Energy Lasers, photonics devices, motors and drives, defense products, and a variety of other technologies in the expanding product portfolio of GA-EMS.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with GA-EMS Engineering staff and chief engineers in the concept development and production design, integration, and test of satellite electrical systems with an emphasis on Circuit and Component Radiation Assurance for all product lines and technology areas, with an emphasis on satellite and space systems products.
  • With limited direction, exercise considerable latitude for initiating and developing designs, techniques, and solutions to resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate prior experience in the improvement of legacy systems and development of new systems.
  • Generate Circuit and Component Radiation Assurance solutions for new project needs, perform engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, communicate results to engineering and program management staff, give technical presentations, and manage technical effort schedules.
  • May function in a leadership role for a project and provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff in technical efforts involving development projects in any product area.
  • Formulate plans and coordinate solutions development and deployment including documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solutions in an evolving environment.
  • Communicate with colleagues and management throughout solution development and deployment cycles.
  • May represent the organization as a prime technical contact on projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine (9) or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, seven (7) or more years of experience with a master's degree, or four (4) or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Required Experience: Electrical/Electronic/Electromechanical (EEE) parts selection, analysis, screening, qualification, and derating (NASA EEE-INST-002); specification, modeling, simulation, analysis, and engineering design for radiation hardness assurance; demonstrated technical expertise and application of semiconductor physics; analysis, design, and implementation of space hardware systems to include digital, analog, and RF is required; guiding a design through development and into production.
  • Desired Skills (ranked high to low): EEE Parts Radiation analysis; experience with Systems Tool Kit (formerly Satellite Tool Kit), FastRad, SPENVIS, NOVICE, OMERE, Altium PCB Design Software, PADS PCB Design Software, Atlassian Project Management and Collaboration Tools, Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving project environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
  • Capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
  • Customer-focused and able to formulate plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving complex technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Must be able to prepare and conduct detailed technical presentations and reviews; experience with government/defense acquisition technical reviews, including SRR, PDR, and CDR is a plus.
  • Some travel and extended work schedules may be required.
