Job Description
Oversee the Arizona (AZ) Structures group in our transportation practice of the company. Responsible for directing and managing teams of engineers focused on transportation-related projects in the Arizona geographic market. Required to interface with clients, and Federal, Local, and State government contacts for freeway and/or municipal projects located anywhere within the described region.
Primary Job Duties:
- Group Leader:
- Lead a diverse team and contribute to the continuous growth of the AZ Structures group
- Foster a positive, professional, and committed team environment
- Manage the financial performance and reporting requirements of our AZ Structures group
- Recruit key staff to expand our transportation practice capabilities
- Mentor staff for their career development
- Strategically manage tools, equipment, and technology for the AZ Structures group
- Identify and motivate staff on emerging technologies and capabilities
- Project Management:
- Develop project scopes and budgets
- Interface with and maintain clients
- Mentor and development of junior staff
- Develop project plans and schedules
- Meet with clients to prepare and or validate proposed scopes of work
- Prepare fee proposals for civil/structural engineering design and construction observation work
- Ensure internal communication and coordination as design efforts occur
- Contribute structural engineering technical expertise to the transportation practice
- Provide technical knowledge in structural engineering for federal, state, and local governments
- Project Engineer:
- Manage budgets, discipline tasks, and tracking projects while being responsible for client deliverables
- Prepare and check design calculations, quantities, cost estimates, and project plans for bridges and civil structures
- Conduct field assessments and inspection of structures and facilities, as needed
- Be self-motivated, technically proficient, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and be team-oriented
- Travel occasionally within Arizona and neighboring southwestern states and be physically capable of performing fieldwork
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Minimum Education: Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years in bridge design.
- Required P.E. certification in Civil and Structural Engineering (AZ). Certification in additional states is a plus.
- S.E. certification in California is a plus.
- Experience in DOT and municipality in all facets of engineering for AZ. Experience in multiple states is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data management skills are essential.
- Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and oral presentation.
- Proven ability to manage projects, develop work, and provide excellent client service.
- Strong skills in planning, scheduling, organization, and problem-solving.
- Ability to make mathematical computations and design engineering projects.
- Proficiency in engineering instruments and tools, including computer workstations and bridge engineering software such as LEAP, MathCAD, RISA, and LPile.
- Demonstrate skill in MicroStation and AutoCAD.
- InRoads and Civil 3D experience a plus.
- Marketing experience a plus.
- Travel required when necessary.
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier

Working Conditions and Environment:
This position will require general supervision and will have to use independent judgment within established guidelines. Generally uses the advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts or circumstances. Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project, and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
