The City of Brooks requires one (1) I.T. Administrator in the Finance Services Department.

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure. It requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills. The IT Administrator will play a critical role in maintaining the security and efficiency of our technology systems while providing exceptional support to end-users.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES I.T. ADMINISTRATOR:

System Management:

  1. Server Administration: Manage and maintain physical, virtual and cloud servers, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Ensure optimal performance and reliability of server resources.
  2. System Updates: Regularly apply operating system patches, software updates, and service packs to keep systems secure and up-to-date. Maintain a schedule for routine maintenance to minimize disruption.
  3. Performance Monitoring: Utilize monitoring tools to track system performance metrics and analyze logs to identify and resolve issues proactively.

User Support

  1. Help Desk Operations: Act as the primary point of contact for technical support inquiries. Utilize ticketing systems to manage and prioritize support requests.
  2. Technical Assistance: Provide hands-on support for hardware (desktops, laptops, printers) and software issues (applications, operating systems) to ensure user productivity.
  3. User Onboarding: Assist in the onboarding process for new employees, including setting up accounts, configuring devices, and providing initial training on company software and policies.

Network Administration

  1. Network Configuration: Set up and configure network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls, to ensure secure and efficient connectivity.
  2. Network Monitoring: Regularly monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues such as connectivity problems, bandwidth usage, and network security threats.
  3. VPN Management: Implement and manage secure remote access solutions, ensuring remote employees have the necessary tools to work efficiently.

Security Management:

  1. Policy Development: Create and enforce IT security policies, including data protection and user access protocols, to safeguard sensitive information.
  2. Incident Response: Respond to security incidents and breaches, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  3. Backup and Recovery: Establish and maintain data backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure business continuity in the event of data loss.

Software Management:

  1. Policy Development: Create and enforce IT security policies, including data protection and user access protocols, to safeguard sensitive information.
  2. Incident Response: Respond to security incidents and breaches, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  3. Backup and Recovery: Establish and maintain data backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure business continuity in the event of data loss.

Documentation:

  1. IT Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of all IT processes, configurations, and system changes. Create user manuals and technical guides for reference.
  2. Reporting: Generate reports on system performance, security incidents, and user support metrics for management review and decision-making.
  3. Change Management: Document and track changes to IT infrastructure, ensuring that all modifications are logged and reviewed.

Collaboration:

  1. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with various departments to understand their technology needs and provide tailored solutions that enhance productivity.
  2. Vendor Management: Liaise with external vendors and service providers for hardware procurement, software licensing, and support services. Negotiate contracts and manage relationships to ensure quality service delivery.
  3. Project Participation: Contribute to IT projects, including system upgrades, network enhancements, and new technology rollouts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Training:

  1. User Training: Develop and conduct training sessions for staff on new technologies, cybersecurity awareness, and best practices for using company systems.
  2. Resource Development: Create educational materials to empower users and enhance their IT knowledge, including video tutorials and FAQs.
  3. Continuous Improvement: Foster a continuous learning and improvement culture, encouraging staff to stay informed about emerging technologies and trends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Education: Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  2. Experience: 5 to 7 years of experience in IT administration or a similar role, demonstrating proficiency in managing IT systems and providing technical support.
  3. Technical Skills: Expertise in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), networking technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  4. Security Knowledge: Strong understanding of IT security principles, practices, and compliance regulations.
  5. Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) are preferred.
  6. Soft Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  7. Valid Class 5 Driver s Licence with clean driver s abstract and

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The City of Brooks offers a competitive salary and benefits package, with this position falling within the scope of the Collective Agreement between the City of Brooks and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1032.
  • The 2024 salary range for this position is $38.46 to $45.68 CAD per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
