Linux Systems Administrator (mid- to senior-level) at NASA Goddard
We have an immediate opening for a mid- to senior-level Linux Systems Administrator supporting the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland. This position requires a combination of hands-on hardware and software support experience.
Bachelors degree in a related field is the nominal baseline. Advanced degrees are a plus, but not required. If you do not have a four-year college degree, extra hands-on experience over and above the 7 year base will be required.
NASA program background: The NCCS provides high performance computing for NASA-sponsored scientists and engineers. Our integrated set of computational capabilities includes High Performance Computing, Cloud Computing, Analytics, Data Sharing and Tools, Visualization, and Climate Data Services. The purpose of the NCCS is to enhance NASA capabilities in Earth science, with an emphasis on weather and climate prediction, and to enable future scientific discoveries that will benefit humankind. Goddard is NASAs premiere space flight complex and home to the nations largest organization of scientists, engineers, and technologists who build spacecraft, instruments, and new technology to study Earth, the Sun, our solar system, and the universe.

Linux Systems Administrator (mid- to senior-level) at NASA Goddard
We have an immediate opening for a mid- to senior-level Linux Systems Administrator supporting the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland. This position requires a combination of hands-on hardware and software support experience.
- We are looking for someone with a strong computer science background with the ability to quantify analysis and resolve complex system issues.
- This position is in support of an on-prem OpenStack cloud. Our site is Linux-heavy (about 90%) but some Windows Server systems admin work will be required.
- The ability to troubleshoot and repair hardware issues is also required.
- This is not an entry-level position. Hands-on workplace experience as a Linux systems admin is required.
- 7-10 years of actual workplace experience as a Linux systems administrator is the minimum that is acceptable.
- Experience as a Linux Systems Administrator is required. Experience with Windows Server systems administration is also required.
- Scripting, OpenStack, CI/CD hands-on experience required
- Actual hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues is required
- Component/systems installation/repair/replacement experience
- Proactively monitor computer systems and perform maintenance for operational efficiency
- Provide systems performance analysis and tuning.
- Provide significant user support and manage ticket requests.
- Develop scripts to automate repetitive tasks to enhance the support of virtual systems.
