Job Title: Warehouse Industrial Engineer

FLSA Status: EXEMPT

Department: Operations

Reports to: Corporate VP

Summary:

The Warehouse Industrial Engineer is responsible for supporting PJL s continuous improvement culture across all divisions by actively applying continuous improvement methods to support new and existing operations. The Engineer will identify and drive change within the operation through data driven CI, Engineering, and Automation efforts to deliver higher levels of performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Business Development team to analyze client data to determine order profiles, storage media application, product slotting, velocity, SKU affinities, ABC analysis.
  • Prepares engineering calculations and documents to describe solution and detailed operating concepts such as storage and shipping capacity, facility sizing, zoning, slotting, waving, etc. and facilitates reviews with key work stream leads including engineering peers, WMS Implementation, and operations.
  • Designs the overall facility layout, storage media, and flow paired with the appropriate equipment supporting the Concept of Operations.
  • Supports the business development process by supporting responses to RFPs including developing materials and presenting to potential clients.
  • Leads detailed engineering process on new business awards to take the design from conceptualization to full detailed design ready for implementation by performing data analyses, developing material handling specifications, working with vendors to obtain quotes, and generating a detailed, engineered AutoCAD layout with fitment into the selected facility.
  • Joint Planning Sessions with client and conducts gap analysis to ensure issues are resolved; identifies changes to the scope when they occur and provides necessary documentation and escalation.
  • Participates on a team responsible for the implementation of new business by preparing WMS configuration documentation that includes all needed locations, slotting, zoning, sequences for put-away and picking, and allocation rules for the facility. Supports the identification and design of new WMS and interface requirements needing development.
  • Manages material handling and automation vendors through schedule, permitting, installation, commissioning, punch lists, etc. and validates all equipment installation, including necessary performance testing.
  • Develop and manage a thorough, effective, and timely continuous improvement plan to drive value to our customers (transformation plan development and execution).
  • Support go-live and steady state certifications.
  • Identify and support Automation projects. Regularly interacts with operations management and/or customer(s).
  • Effective facilitation and execution Value Stream Maps & Kaizen Events through all stages (A3 charter ideation / creation, pre-work identification and completion, delivery of results in Kaizen week, regular follow up and follow through on sustainment).
  • Provide regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against the site objectives.
  • Effectively leverage data analytics, engineering methodologies, and advanced lean tools to enable root cause identification and elimination.
  • Support go-live and steady state certifications.
  • Develop and demonstrate competency in wide range of engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards and coach employees in the use and implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, & Lean principles.
  • Applies engineering methodologies/tools such as product slotting, studying labor standards (time studies), layouts and optimization of flow, data profiling and analysis, and resource modeling to improve distribution and/or transportation operations.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with 3+ years of experience in the Warehousing & Transportation industry required.
  • Self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to manage cross-functional projects from beginning to sustained results.
  • System and change implementation skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Experience in an AS9100 or ISO9001 production environment
  • Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temp control), warehouse layout/ design and Lean methods
  • Warehouse design tools such as CAD (e.g. AutoCAD); slotting (e.g Slot3D), Predetermined Motion and Time Systems and methods (e.g. MOST); Warehouse Management Systems
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
