Position Summary

Responsibilities

The Health Sciences (HS) Academic Tutor is responsible for providing tutoring and or coaching for students enrolled in a SHS health program of study who need assistance with content areas that are part of their program of study, but not related specifically to the discipline. Examples include:

  • Anatomy
  • Body Systems
  • Quantitative Skills
  • Physiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Professionalism
  • Other as needed

The overall responsibility for tutoring is to help improve student success and promote retention through filling in knowledge gaps in specific areas of training within a discipline.

This is a grant-funded position through June 30, 2024.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

Provide tutoring and or coaching for students enrolled in a SHS health program of study who need assistance with content areas that are part of their program of study, but not related specifically to the discipline as stated above.

Help improve student success and promote retention through filling in knowledge gaps in these areas within their discipline.

Monitoring students on their academic progress and assisting with student retention activities.

Tracking each student encounter by program and report volume back to SHS Leadership and faculty/instructional staff that generated referrals.

Measuring course-level success for each student receiving services, measuring Student satisfaction surveys and outcomes

This position will be charged with monitoring, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on student success and retention data and developing progression and completion plans for students seeking their services.

Collaborate with AACC's financial aid, registration, marketing, advising and admissions personnel as well as faculty and instructional staff in the SHS.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree or higher.

Two years of experience providing coaching or tutoring, case management or student support services.

Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail required.

Ability to work with minimal supervision with attention to deadlines.

Ability to work effectively and tactfully with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Proficiency in use of PC-based computers required and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.
