Job Description
This is a Senior Technical Position that requires the candidate to have extensive practical working experience in systems administration and in-depth understanding and knowledge of network operating systems administration including Server OS, Active Directory, DNS, PKI, Microsoft EndPoint Configuration Manager, Server Monitoring, M365, Entra ID and Azure Cloud admin. This is a leadership position that requires a high level of hands-on experience in a primarily Windows Server and Azure cloud environment. Geographically, Solano County network includes 6 cities, 4 Data Centers and multiple branch locations, as well as two Azure tenants. Along with other team members this position will be responsible for the day-to-day operational responsibilities for supporting and securing the Solano County compute, storage and cloud infrastructure. Our on-premises compute environment is mainly Cisco UCS / HX products so recent experience should include working on converged or hyperconverged virtualization platform.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers day-to-day operational readiness of Solano County Infrastructure Services.
- Responds to daily service requests or trouble calls using the Service Now Ticketing system.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at various levels of technical knowledge, from end-user to Executive management.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot problems and find solutions,
- Responds promptly to service outages, able to identify issues, analyze and evaluate root causes, and provide solutions to ensure services are operating efficiently.
- Manages on-premises and cloud infrastructure to ensure SLAs and QOS are met.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.
- Managing all stages in life cycle of compute and storage hardware/software including implementation, testing, maintenance, upgrades/refresh, and decommissioning.
- Responds to critical outages and after-hours incidents as needed.
- Using Visio or similar tools, documents system topology and provides drawings as needed.
- Produces clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation in Service Now knowledgebase.
- Manages asset inventory of compute and storage equipment.
- Works with various IT Service towers to resolve complex issues and/or project support.
- Manages Backup systems.
- Team & Technical Leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in a similar position and/or any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position.
- At least one of the following certifications: Computer Science Degree, MCP or equivalent role-based certifications in Windows Server, Microsoft Office 365 or Microsoft Azure
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expert level of experience in Active Directory Domain Services, to include FSMO roles, AD Functional Level upgrades, Domain Trusts, AD Site & Subnets, DFS & SYSVOL replication, GPO optimization, ADMX upgrades, LDAP queries, Dynamic DNS, SPNs, ICACLs, etc..
- High level of expertise in Entra ID / Azure AD, to include Entra Connect, SAML & OIDC SSO, Conditional Access policies, Privilege Identity Management, PIV and FIDO2 Smartcard, etc..
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Services to include Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, MS Teams, Dynamics, Power BI, etc..
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft PKI, Certificate Authorities, Templates, CRL etc..
- Excellent knowledge and experience with Azure cloud services in IaaS, PaaS and SaaS scenarios.
- Hands on knowledge working with VMWare vSphere and VMWare ESXi hosts.
- Hands on experience working with Cisco UCS platform, including UCSM and HX connect.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM) and Intune MDM hybrid device management.
- Working knowledge of Rubrik CDM and/or RSC data management platform.
- Very strong focus on Information Security & Compliance best practice
- Well-versed in ITIL concepts for ITSM and ITOM.
- Knowledge of SolarWinds Orion Suite is desirable - able to leverage network management tools in the identification and response to incidents and faults.
- Experience with Packet capturing and protocol analysis (TCP, UDP, ICMP, packet dissection).
- Able to Work with department members and interface with resources from other groups, able to manage critical situations and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Creating topology drawings in Visio and maintain comprehensive system documentation.
- Participate in the problem investigation of major incidents related to network services, provide recommendations to improve reliability and availability, or reduce recovery time.
- Able to function as technical lead on multiple high-profile projects, balancing priorities and managing multiple urgent time demands.
Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in an office setting, at an individual work station, using telephone and computer
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the day.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer/copy machine.
- This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office.
- The person in this position frequently communicates via telephone, virtual meetings and calls and Teams chat messages.
