The Wellness Strategist leads a team of health educators, non-clinical social workers, and other professionals to implement the Benefit Funds' Healthy Living Initiatives programs designed to inspire and empower the members of 1199SEIU United Health Care Workers East to live healthier lives. The Strategist works closely with the Funds' Executive Leadership, the Union, and Employers to lead these initiatives to improve the health outcomes of the members and their families.

The Strategist promotes Wellness initiatives to accomplish two essential goals: Teaching behaviors that promote wellness and implementing programs aimed at improving individuals' health and preventing disease.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and assess program functionality, enhancements, and expansion to positively impact the health of members and reduce the Fund's medical cost expenditures

Manage quality assurance of all Healthy Living programs and activities, and coordinate with internal departments and external contacts to increase member participation, engagement, and improve results

Program Management

  • Identify and oversee healthy living initiatives and programs that support increased member health. Programs will align with the following healthy living pillars:
  • Healthy Hearts - lead programs and education on chronic conditions such as hypertension and others that impact heart health
  • Healthy Minds (Emotional Well-Being and Mental Health Programming)
  • Oversee Stress Management and other virtual workshops provided social workers
  • Oversee the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) peer-to-peer education program
  • Oversee the Member Assistance Program (social workers assess members needs and make referrals)
  • Maternal Health Program
  • Develop outreach and recruitment initiatives in collaboration with other departments including Communications and Provider Relations to expand Wellness Department Prenatal Program
  • Overvee Prenatal Programs to include webinars, pre-natal coaching service, and programs that focus on black maternal health
  • Healthy Bodies
  • Oversee Virtual Exercise/Movement programs
  • Work with Director of Strategic Initiatives to implement employer partnerships for cancer screening and other programs
  • Healthy Eating Programs
  • Weight Watchers
  • Food is Medicine partnerships
  • Nutrition workshops
  • Healthy Relationships with Provider
  • Develop programs that empower members to have stronger relationships with their providers
  • Outcome Measurements
  • Analyze health data and implement programs enabling timely interventions and preventive measures that can improve health outcomes for the members.
  • Responsible for managing worksite 1199SEIU Benefit Fund Health Fairs as follows:
  • Collaborate with internal team to identify sites for health fairs
  • Ensure Wellness staff coordinates with Outreach/Union and Employer to promote fairs and increase participation
  • Oversee the operations of health fair from planning to implementation
  • Track deliverables and outcomes at Health Fairs (enroll members in Weight Watchers, Virta, or other programs as appropriate)
  • Ensure follow up post fair and coordinate with Care Management Department for handoff
  • Oversee the daily operation and all aspects of Wellness/Member Assistance (MAP) programs including:
  • Strategic planning
  • Execution of events
  • Implementation of innovative programs
  • Collaboration with health systems and providers
  • Analytical demonstration of programmatic impact on member health and benefit costs
  • Supervision of staff workflows and health events

Oversee staff recruitment, supervision development, training, and assignment priorities to provide direction for staff.

Manage and analyze the budget and create accurate reports on all Wellness/MAP activities and outcomes.

Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree HealthCare or Science required, Master's degree highly preferred
  • Minimum eight (8) years' experience in tracking, trending, and analyzing clinical performance data; creating and managing healthy living programs required and six (6) years managing and coaching staff.
  • Must have experience working in an executive role in a health care environment
  • Strong experience with quantitative measures for results
  • Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, and communication skills.
