The Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis is looking for a full-time General Repair Worker opening on our 53-acre campus.

***NOTE: This is an EVENING position, work hours are 11:30 am - 8:00 pm, Monday - Friday. ***

As a General Repair Worker, you will assist trade employees in performing semi-skilled work in a variety of trade areas both in and outdoors. This position frequently works independently and typically repairs various types of equipment as well as building repairs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform minor repairs of plumbing, carpentry, plaster, furniture, ceiling tile and grid, doors, and locks, cut keys, windows and other apparatus.
  • Perform minor repairs to W/C, Broda chairs, walkers, and beds.
  • Document preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in snow removal and salting of campus during winter months.
  • Operate vehicles such as trucks, vans, skid steers, and personal lifts to transport and complete needed work.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

General methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g., mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and repair machinery, tools, and facilities in a timely and safe manner. Occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.

Ability to:

  • Safely use hand and power hand tools.
  • Safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other grounds and maintenance equipment.
  • Follow instructions and provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
  • This position requires a valid Class D Driver's License.

Additional Requirements

A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position(s). When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.

A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
