The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) seeks a talented and enthusiastic medical educator for the position of Assistant/Associate/Professor (Career Advising).

This position will work to further develop and deliver a comprehensive career advising program to help successfully guide students through their undergraduate medical education. Collaboration will be critical as this position will work closely with leadership and physician educators across UICOMP and the College of Medicine.

Position Summary

This position provides career advising across all four years of medical students. Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, this position will direct a comprehensive longitudinal career advising program for students through the Phase 1-3 curriculum, foster and maintain relationships with faculty specialty advisors, and provide individual career advising for third- and fourth-year students. The position will work collaboratively with departments across the College of Medicine Peoria.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive career advising program throughout M1- M4 year including career exploration, advising and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs on the ongoing development, facilitation, and presentation of the curriculum for career development for M1-M4 students.
  • Administer the Clinical Faculty Advisor program in M1/M2, including hiring, supervision, faculty development and direction of program activities.
  • Provide individual career advising for M1 and M2 students by request and for competitive specialty advising.
  • Provide individual career and application advising for the M3 class and M4 classes.
  • Further develop and cultivate relationships with clinical departments to optimize specialty advising for students. Provide faculty development, as needed, for specialty advisors on the residency match process.
  • Collaborate across the University of Illinois College of Medicine system on career advising activities and curriculum
  • Develop and organize metrics, outcomes and surveys on career advising to meet Academic Affairs goals.
  • Remain current on residency match trends through ongoing professional development and self-directed education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or MBBS Degree
  • Board Certified. Currently clinically practicing.
  • Five years’ experience in medical education with understanding of the residency match process for undergraduate or graduate medical education.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous education in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate medical levels is preferred.
