Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Type: Fulltime/Secondment (6 months + term)
Minimum Level of Education: Bachelor of Engineering
Years of Related Experience: 10-15
Office Location: Genessee, AB Area
Shift: 10 hour days/10 and 4 Shift
Position Summary
Reporting to the E&I Engineering Manager and working with the E&I team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design for various industrial projects. This will include components of power distribution, fault analysis, arc flash analysis, area classification, and electrical installation design. The Electrical Engineer will also be required to provide construction support and commissioning/start-up support on various projects/locations as required.
Other responsibilities include:
- Leading electrical engineering role for various single discipline and multi-discipline projects.
- Performing engineering calculations of cable tray fill, short circuit, voltage drop, protection sizing, etc., and design using both computer-aided and manual design techniques.
- Developing and validating electrical engineering deliverables such as single line diagrams, grounding layouts, area classification drawings, equipment/lighting/cable tray layouts, schematic diagrams, EHT drawings, standard installation details and equipment/motor lists.
- Specification, selection and bid-tab analysis of electrical equipment.
- Reviewing and verification of vendor drawings.
- Preparing schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, procurement, and material forecasts.
- Organizing/planning jobs, writing/reviewing specifications, preparing/maintaining schedules, and developing/monitoring estimates and manpower forecasts, assigning work, working with project/client/field, and material procurement and permit.
- Utilizing vendor data and working with personnel from other disciplines as required for the performance of designs.
- Coordinating with clients and field construction personnel as required.
- Performing squad check of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines.
- Performing self-check of completed work.
- Developing self-confidence and providing guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Applying pertinent codes, governing regulations, and industry practices, etc.
- Visiting project sites to ensure successful execution of project.
- Assisting in audits.
Our Ideal Candidate
- 5 to 10 years of Industrial Electrical Engineering.
- Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Electrical Standards/Code.
- Familiarity with a variety of industrial electrical design is required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Electrical construction and commissioning experience would be an asset.
- Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives.
- Able to create cost effective alternative solution to problems.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- The use of discipline specific software may be required.
- Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email as well as the intermediate use of spreadsheets.
- Mentor and train junior staff.
