PURPOSE OF POSITION: To work the Sustaining Development projects regard to part obsolescence, Component Evaluation for new product development, PTH to SMT board conversions, yield improvement design activity and Design-to-Order proposals and subsequent design activity upon acceptance.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop an environment of continual improvement through the use of Lean tools.
- Promote the Bird Family Values through your actions Trust, Innovation, Teamwork, Achievement and Accountability.
- Be able to describe the quality policy and goals, your contribution to quality, and the effects of not observing quality and customer requirements.
- Establish and implement product design and manufacturing changes for cost reduction and improved product performance.
- Improve product yields of legacy products through redesign and part specification efforts.
- Resolve product performance issues as a result of design or component limitations.
- Work with Test Engineering with the training of operators and technicians on products.
- Revision of project data, including schematic drawings, mechanical sketches, and bills of material.
- Design circuits, systems, or structures as required by the sustaining design project manager.
- Calibration, data collection, and environmental testing of prototypes.
- Technical support and sustaining engineering for manufacturing operations.
- Technical support to purchasing for vendor or parts selection.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
* Bachelor s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
5+ years of experience with demonstrated technical knowledge of circuits and mechanical aspects of resistive products or instrument design.
RF circuit design, troubleshoot and analysis to resolve problems and improve product quality and/functionality.
Familiarity with electronic manufacturing processes, particularly Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and final assembly test.
Good troubleshooting and "bench skills."
Strong knowledge of analysis and problem solving.
Ability to use modern simulation tools for circuit and field analysis.
AutoCAD or other Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience helpful.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ability to operate computer and keyboard. Able to use phone; communicate using speech, hearing, and vision skills; sit or stand for moderate periods.
