Job Summary
This role is responsible for the development of best-in-class Auto products on a countrywide basis to drive profitable growth. This includes developing the overarching strategy for assigned products by conducting consumer, competitor and agent research to inform product design.
The individual will work closely with the R&D team to develop new models to support both countrywide and state specific models. The role requires close collaboration with the underwriting team to develop non-rate mitigation strategies and speed and Automate the underwriting process. This role will work closely with IT on the creation of business requirements and conduct user acceptance testing of new products and enhancements. Finally, this individual will work with the state product management team to execute implementation of new products and features.
In addition, this individual will lead analysis on the assigned products' performance to understand growth and profitability opportunities and challenges and develop strategies to achieve financial goals. This again requires close collaboration with the property product office, underwriting, state product management and IT teams.
The Auto role includes leadership of all functions related to Telematics. This includes CMT relationship management, strategy, and program development.
This role will also oversee the Umbrella line of business which is closely linked to the Auto line of business.
It is key to collaborate effectively with the following internal partners: customer experience, marketing, distribution, and claims.
It is also required to scan the external market for vendors to provide supplemental products, reinsurance and third-party data to help more accurately underwrite risks.

Regular travel to home office or product management hubs as well as field travel to meet with members of distribution, DMs, agents, regulatory entities, etc.
Experience Requirements
10-15 years of industry experience. Must have product development and management experience. Experience managing several areas of an insurance company (product, marketing, claims, etc.) is beneficial as it provides a perspective on how product changes can impact the rest of the organization. An understanding of IT is critical to success in this role.
A deep understanding of the Auto and Umbrella insurance industry along with knowledge of the key competitors is critical to success in this role. Knowledge of insurance regulations and compliance requirements, product and pricing techniques. In depth understanding of competitive environment. Understanding of the impact of global and local economic and regulatory trends on the insurance marketplace.
Beyond the technical skills, understanding the actions and motivation of our key competitors will help leverage our strengths vs. weaknesses, while simultaneously working on strengthening our vulnerabilities. Ability to drive and lead change management strategies to align with the Farmers Brand.
Special Skill Requirement
A thorough understanding of the Personal Lines business, including the ability to develop personal lines strategy, including pricing, reserving, underwriting and statistical. Advanced mathematics and actuarial techniques, economics, finance. Extensive knowledge of competitive product and pricing techniques and new product offerings. Contract management and negotiation skills.
Advanced leadership skills, critical and analytical thinking, recruiting and people development skills. Also, advanced presentation skills, including the ability to influence others (who are not direct reports) is a necessary skill. Strong ability to engender creative discussion across interdepartmental lines and achieve consensus to drive change.

Essential Job Functions
- Develops and advances the Auto & Umbrella product portfolio strategy and roadmap.
- Design a product, pricing, and underwriting strategy and structures aimed at meeting our corporate profitability goals, while continuously enhancing our competitive position, expanding our profit growth frontier.
- Drives the overall strategic vision for new and existing business through collaboration with the state product management and distribution teams.
- Constantly improves the product development process to speed cycle time for new product introductions and enhancements.
- Implement product and pricing changes which simplify the agent quoting process and enhance our customer satisfaction.
- Work with state product management and distribution to optimize the implementation of Auto product changes and to help the field in measurement and tracking of key initiatives.
- Work with IT on Auto project prioritization and the IT roadmap for Auto quoting and policy management systems.
- Work with the government relations team to promote regulatory reform to enhance Farmers' competitive positioning in its markets.
- Help support the state product management teams on gaining approval on Auto filings from departments of insurance.
- Work with counterparts at Bristol West to enhance our Auto product offering.
- Work with the state product management leadership team and with Talent Acquisition to design and implement enhancements to our PM recruiting and training programs to attract and retain world class talent.
- High level of interaction with various levels of seniority at respective Departments of Insurance and Legislature to a lesser degree.
- Medium level of interaction with Trade and Lobbying organizations.
- Medium level of interaction with external recruiters.
- High level of interaction with insurance vendors such as reinsurers and investigation of risk data providers.
