The Project Manager will be supporting and overseeing a portfolio of strategic projects and initiatives for the Patient Support Center at an Optum West level. For each project, the Project Manager will assist management in ensuring that project goals and objectives are accomplished within specific deadlines and timeframes. This role will be highly collaborative with market level and CDO leaders across cross functional departments. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a strong communicator, organized, process oriented, and able to perform with limited supervision. The Project Manager will report to the Director of Strategy and Special Projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of the project management cycle including scope planning, scope definition, activity sequencing, activity duration estimation, schedule development, resource planning, budgeting, project plan development and maintenance, risk management, reporting, implementation, measures development, and project wrap-up
  • Manages relationships, communications and expectations with the project executive, steering committee or sponsor
  • Provides leadership in helping to define and clarify the project objectives, scope and strategies
  • Develops communication materials that span individual projects in the project
  • Identifies and implements change management strategies and tactical plans that cross the organization’s functional barriers
  • Confirms the organization’s commitment and readiness for change, customer ownership and accountability for taking advantage of the business benefits
  • Performs cost analysis functions including ROIs, budgets and other benefits analyses as required for project
  • Identifies potential project risks and implements appropriate courses of action to address project slippage and develops strategies to mitigate future risks
  • Escalates critical issues to business sponsor or steering committee if necessary for appropriate and timely resolution as needed
  • Promotes the attainment of business benefits through a metrics project by setting performance targets and communicating results
  • Supports the collection of lessons learned and knowledge transfer across the organization
  • Helps ensure that key decision makers are involved to the appropriate degree in the appropriate aspects of the project
  • Works with project teams to identify integration points and dependencies across projects
  • Works to ensure that significant gaps and overlays do not exist across projects, efforts are combined when appropriate, and the timing and sequence of projects are appropriate
  • Deploys project resources by effectively managing budgets for projects by negotiating time commitments and resources for project teams
  • Utilizes standardized processes, tools, methodologies and presentation templates including project timetables, progress/milestone reports, financial reports, resource and issues tracking
  • Promotes adherence to standardized processes and strategic principles and actively shares knowledge with other members and improves the tools and processes used by staff
  • Maintains regular contact and generates periodic status reports for the project’s stakeholders
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare industry or managed care
  • 2+ years of experience in project management

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP certification from a PMI-recognized qualified educator
  • 1+ years of experience in integration specific projects

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Computer literate
  • Solid PC-based business software skills (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Visio, PowerBI) and other business tools
  • Solid ability to collaborate with senior leadership and other department directors/managers to define business process issues, analyze operational efficiencies, implement creative solutions, and measure delivery of service and products
  • Demonstrated skills working on and managing a variety of complex projects, designing solutions and handling direct customer contact
  • Ability to manage the entire project team including other Senior Project managers, Project Managers, Project Leads, Facilitators, subject matter experts and consultants
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret qualitative and quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work well with individuals in all levels of the organization as well as with external vendors and consultants
  • Ability to perform as an effective leader and team player in a highly collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and be a self-starter
  • Ability to function with no supervision
  • Ability to prioritize all activities under the project

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
