Under general direction, acts as a recording/transcribing secretary to the Somerville School Committee for School Committee meetings; performs responsible, confidential and complex duties related the recording/transcription of records and documents.
Responsibilities include
- Review, transcribe and present for approval past and prospective Regular Meeting and Executive sessions notes.
- Required to attend Regular School Committee Meeting which are held on Mondays twice a month and Executive Sessions to take/record minutes.
- Comply with deadlines by completing transcriptions in a timely manner so that meeting minutes can be submitted for approval at the following scheduled School Committee meeting.
- Perform responsible and difficult recording secretarial work involving the use of independent
- judgment and personal initiative.
- Understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume
- assigned responsibilities.
- Knowledge of practices and techniques of minute taking and preparation.
- Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Ability to perform responsible and difficult recording secretarial work involving the use of independent
- judgment and personal initiative.
- Ability to take and transcribe dictation at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
- Ability to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
- Ability to maintain tact and courtesy in high stress environment.
- Ability to operate and use modern office equipment including a computer.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
