Technical Project Manager
Position Summary:
The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for the initial planning, documentation, and coordination of data center infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on designing and building out data center white space. The TPM ensures that all aspects of the project are thoroughly prepared before handing off to the Project Manager for execution. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, particularly in data center white space design, project management acumen, and the ability to produce and organize comprehensive project documentation. The TPM works closely with stakeholders to define the project scope, develop detailed plans, and compile all necessary documentation, ensuring a smooth transition to the execution phase.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Initiation and Planning:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define the project scope, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with business goals, particularly in data center white space design and buildouts.
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budget estimates specific to data center infrastructure projects.
- Identify key project milestones and dependencies, ensuring that all preparatory work is completed before project handoff.
Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, including structured cabling, rack & stack, and white space design.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Asana) and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to create, organize, and manage detailed project documents.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

Documentation Preparation:

- Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Outlines the project's deliverables and the work required to complete them, broken down into manageable sections.
- Project Schedule: A detailed timeline that includes all tasks, milestones, and dependencies.
- Resource Allocation Plan: Identifies the resources needed for each phase of the project, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Risk Management Plan: Documents potential risks, their impact, and the mitigation strategies.
- Budget Estimate: Provides a detailed breakdown of projected costs, including materials, labor, and contingency allowances.
- Stakeholder Communication Plan: Details the communication strategy, including how information will be disseminated and reported to stakeholders.
- Technical Specifications: Includes all technical requirements, standards, and guidelines for structured cabling, rack & stack, white space design, and other infrastructure components.
Project Handoff:
- Ensure that all project documentation is finalized and organized before handing off the project to the Project Manager for execution.
- Conduct a formal handoff meeting with the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders, providing a comprehensive overview of the project plans, documentation, and key considerations.
- Address any questions or concerns from the Project Manager to ensure a smooth transition into the execution phase.
Quality Assurance:
- Review all documentation and plans to ensure they meet the required standards and are aligned with industry best practices.
- Perform regular audits of project documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Continuous Improvement:
- Gather feedback from Project Managers and stakeholders after project handoffs to identify areas for improvement in the planning and documentation process.
- Implement best practices and lessons learned in future project planning activities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor s degree in IT, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 7-10 years of experience in project management, with a focus on data center or similar projects.
- Certification: PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Asana, or similar).
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, team members, and senior management.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple aspects of a project simultaneously.
- Budget Management: Experience managing project budgets and financial forecasting.
