Our organization:
The Advanced Technologies Section offers scientific, technical, operational, and thought leadership by developing, hardening, and deploying solutions for compute and data intensive computing environments. Provides state-of-the-art computational and data science infrastructure, coupled with dedicated technical and scientific professionals, to accelerate scientific discovery and engineering advances across a broad range of disciplines.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of software architects, researchers, and engineers to build and deploy innovative interfaces for data discovery, transfer, and workflows assuring provenance and integrity.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Develop and implement interfaces to third-party software visualization tools and packages, databases, etc.
  • Participate in design discussions, reviews, and standup meetings.
  • Implement GUI user functions and components in state-of-the-art Web technologies.
  • Document applications, user manuals.
  • Conduct user studies, debug problems.
Basic Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in computer science or engineering or related field, with a minimum of 7 years of work experience; or B.S. degree in computer science or engineering or related field, with a minimum of 8 years of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery.
  • Proficient understanding of content management systems (CMS), such as Drupal.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as SVN, GIT.
  • Experience with networking protocols, such as REST, HTTPS, and web sockets.
  • Familiar with web security concepts.
  • Familiar with search engine optimizations (SEO).
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and designers.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
