The Role

As an Accident and Emergency (A&E) Consultant, you will offer your medical expertise in emergency care to support legal cases by providing objective insights, conducting detailed case reviews, and offering expert testimony when necessary. Working on a freelance, case-by-case basis, you will review patient records, assess emergency treatment protocols, and provide clear, evidence-based opinions to support legal teams. Your insights will be pivotal in legal matters involving emergency medical treatment, potential malpractice, and critical incidents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of medical records and emergency care protocols in cases involving A&E treatment.
  • Produce detailed, evidence-based reports that provide legal teams with clear assessments of emergency care standards, patient safety, and clinical decisions.
  • Offer expert witness testimony in court or legal hearings, presenting findings in a concise, professional manner for non-medical audiences.
  • Consult with legal teams to help them interpret complex A&E-related medical concepts, terminology, and treatment protocols.
  • Remain updated on advancements in emergency medicine and care guidelines to ensure that all findings and testimony are current and accurate.

Key Areas of Focus
  • Assess cases involving critical, time-sensitive decisions made in A&E settings, including triage, diagnosis, and treatment prioritization.
  • Evaluate adherence to A&E protocols, including patient assessment, monitoring, and stabilization.
  • Provide insights into cases where deviations from A&E standards may have led to patient harm, identifying potential instances of malpractice or negligence.
  • Review the application of resuscitation protocols, trauma response, and life-saving measures.
  • Serve as a credible expert witness, presenting objective, evidence-based findings in a clear, accessible way to assist judges, juries, and legal professionals in understanding A&E standards.

Qualifications
  • UK medical degree with a specialization in emergency medicine (e.g., FRCEM or equivalent).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of A&E care protocols, emergency medicine standards, and resuscitation procedures.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed analyses of clinical cases and deliver unbiased reports for use in legal contexts.
