Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

Our BIM Specialist I is focused on the layout, detailing, modeling, and coordinating of mechanical systems such as piping, plumbing, and ductwork. A high level of organization, commitment to the process, and a sense of urgency are key traits of this individual. A strong spirit of teamwork and accountability to the project team compliment the BIM Specialist s can-do attitude.

First Essential Function Detailing (Percent Time 40%)

Using 2D and 3D drafting and modeling software, work with field personnel to facilitate the construction process with creation of shop drawings, sketches, and as-built drawings.

General System Layout: Familiarity with codes, standards, and industry standard practice

Detailing of Ductwork: Familiarity with SMACNA Duct Construction Standards

Detailing of Mechanical Piping: Familiarity with Industry Standards and pipefitting methods

Detailing of Plumbing Piping: Familiarity with Industry Standards and plumbing methods

Second Essential Function BIM Modeling and Coordination (Percent Time 25%)

Using 3D modeling software, facilitate virtual design and construction (VDC)

Participate in/lead BIM coordination sessions with other trades

Coordinate layout with field personnel

Adjust and finalize routing shown on design drawings to eliminate clashes

Transfer model layout to detailed shop drawings

Third Essential Function Design Layout and Drafting (Percent Time 25%)

Under the guidance of an engineer:

Size ductwork and piping

Layout equipment and systems

Develop installation details

Prepare schematics, elevations, and isometrics.

Develop a drawing set for permitting and construction.

Fourth Essential Function Training (Percent Time 5%)

Professional development and lifelong learning are essential to maintaining a competitive position in the marketplace. Seek industry related certifications or accreditations by completing on the job training and continuing education.

Fifth Essential Function Administrative (Percent Time 5%)

Various office and administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

A combination of formal education and industry experience will be considered.

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Certification in computer drafting and modeling software, or equivalent, is required.

Trade school, associate s, or bachelor s degree desired.

An educational emphasis on design and construction is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Proficiency with various computer programs including:

Revit, AutoCAD (2D and 3D), Navisworks, and BlueBeam required.

Microsoft Office Applications, BIM 360, and Procore preferred.

Familiarity with building and utility mechanical systems, process and hydronic piping, ductwork, HVAC equipment, and plumbing systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
